What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

salvage is as salvage does. may have overcompensated with the old one but hey, if you got nothing to lose...

 

never was worth any suspension mods. but this one might be a different story. have to wait though and consider the balance between highway and highway to hell.

 

I'm on that path. Just need to make sure it gets to driving like a champ first and then suspension can come next...

 

I had some damn good luck with a byegone Yota by franken-leafing the back end, a whole lot of thin stock leafs cut to various sizes and put in, driven, taken out, chopped, switched, and so on. I wonder if anyone has found a desireable specification and written it up.

yup, all depends on tire size and weight. I'm just looking to compensate for a stock height fully loaded without getting too stiff. I have some skyjacker AAL's but they're thick. I have some ford exploder spring packs with thin long leafs I may add one or two to the mix.

 

I'm trying to keep this truck pretty stock but still capable - not compromise the road specs too much. Maybe put it up a couple inches with front 5100's and 33's. I have UCA's and the 5100's. Thinking OME's in back but thought to just build my own. If I made a romper it would be out of that salvage, but it's got a bad trans and bad mojo - probably just get me hosed. Feel bad that it has a good motor and is a loaded yuppie cruiser from the best production run.

 

Yeah on road capability is pretty important for me. I live in the city and have to drive 3 hours minimum to most places I want to wheel and most of that will be on fire roads. The more I come up on better deals I'll upgrade the suspension. Right now my goal is to make it handle more balanced - right now it drives like a clapped out station wagon - all after some basic maintenance is performed that is...

 

check all those vacuum hoses - anything tapped into the manifold and change the plugs and wires if you haven't already. These things don't like weird manifold pressures and rubber rots on old rigs.
