Please tell me you haven't done a few google searches before you wrote these posts? A quick search found me this:

    and this:

I could probably keep going, but if you understand how they work and why this can happen from a simple spacer lift after hitting something hard, then I shouldn't have to go no further.

    Please, go farther.

If you've actually done the hands on homework you will know exactly what the limit is. Google searching for broken shocks doesn't prove a damn thing. I can google "broken 5100" and provide the same pictures(try it).

I've cycled and measured a factory Bilstein shock with and without a spacer and measured shaft travel with/without the spacer. It has been proven that a 1" thick spacer providing ~2" of lift still leaves enough shaft travel left as to NOT turn the shock into the bump stop, debunking your theory that a spacer will automatically bend a shock into a Taco once you leave your driveway.

Lol I never said anything about a driveway did I?

Those pictures were a result of the search terms "spacer lift pothole damage tacoma" btw. Not just random broken 5100 shocks.

If you feel comfortable enough to reach out to a random Tom or Dick on the internet and tell him, "yeah bud, run a 1" or whatever height spacer you'd like on your truck" and still sleep soundly at night feeling totally at ease with what you just said, then be my guest, as that is your journey. I for one won't tell anyone in good conscience to do that.

How about your stance on diff drops for 2nd gens? Yay or nay?

I actually know the measurements of the shocks with/without spacers and have documented and proven your statement to be false. I'd be more than happy to listen to your explanation as to why I'm wrong. :pccoffee:

The factory and 5100 billies are a hollow stem if I remember correctly. My stance on them with spacers is that the extra pressure coupled with a nasty hit is a recipe for something good to happen (or bad depending on your perspective of it). Anyways, as I was saying, It's you all's trucks. Do what you want with them, just make sure that if you start FWS (fucking with the screws) on them, you are fully informed on what possible consequences on them may be.

Not saying you are wrong. If you are right, you are right. Nevertheless.. they are what they are. We stand where we stand on them. I could tell you the world is flat and you would tell me it is round. Even if it was flat, there is no swaying your opinion based on what you know about them. I'm not here to start a pissing match, but you sure seem like you want to drag it on. I'm done here. Good day to you Justin.

They aren't big enough to bottom out the shocks. You have exactly 1 5/8" of unused shock shaft when the truck hits the bump stop. If you add a 1" spacer to the assembly you still have 5/8" of shock shaft left after the bump stop hits.

This is all documented in the link I previously posted.

I should still have the same amount of travel I do now, right? Since the spacers don't even touch the springs?

Just put the spacers on and be happy. Everyone is going to argue with you bc its a spacer lift, but at the end of day its your truck.

Not an expert by any means, but I'm curious if it would add pre-load to the springs and cause them to run in a different range? As in eliminate the initial portion of the spring stroke by having it already compressed by the spacer?

These are top mounted spacers. They don't preload the coil at all.
