Was on my way to work this morning and was going threw a green light and a guy on a bike road into the intersection and i hit him pretty good, he went 10 feet in the air before landing on his head with no helmet. He limped out of the road in a lot of pain and over to the sidewalk. He was coming down the wrong way of a one way, let alone it was a red light his direction. I picked up all his stuff that went flying all over the road and his bike that now has an inoperable back rim. I asked him if he wanted an ambulance, he said no, no cops. He was kind of a sketchy younger guy, big heroin and meth problems around here. There was another truck about 100 yards away at another red light but he just drove by us. So I didn't know what to do other than make sure he was OK. I was around the block from work so my boss came over and talked with him also and he just said he was alright but was obvious he was still in a lot of pain. I then asked if he needed a ride anywhere since he didn't want medical, he said a ride home would be good. We then went to a bad part of town and he just had me drop him off at this store where other homeless were gathered. It was more light out at this time so I finally got to look at the damage to my truck and it only looked like my new grill is smashed and license plate bent, I'll look more when I go for lunch. He obv didn't have money to fix my damages so I didn't know what the hell to do. I was actually still more worried about him at this point because he hit his head so hard and was saying he thought toes were broke. So what would you of done here, would you call the police anyway? Or something different?

I would probably post about it on an internet forum and seek advice from the most sarcastic keyboard warriors the world has to offer :)

Not sure what state this was in, but I ride a road bike to work. In the DC and VA states, if I choose to ride in the street and not use sidewalks then I MUST assume the same rules as the drivers if I am to commute as a vehicle would. It sounds like to me that he probably thought because he is a biker that he has right of way or some crap. On the road, as a road biker, he could of gotten a ticket just for running a red light. There are some homeless guys who try to get hit around by me with the thought that they will get paid crazy insurance funds for getting hit. What they don't know is that they are actually the ones at fault. I would assume the guy might of known that he was probably in the wrong legally in riding his bike. Its up to you if you want to file, considering he is likely a hobo, I doubt you will hear anything from it. Reasons like this are exactly why road bikers are held to the same standard as a vehicle so the hope that they wont jeopardize the flow of traffic and cause confusion at the wrong time to where someone might get killed. Im sorry about your grill man.

For a minute there, it almost sounded like you were more interested in your vehicle rather than an actual person.

I would of called the Police at a minimum. Let them decide who was in the wrong and hang on to the police report. Not sure if he has any grounds for a case at this point but it wouldn't suprise me if he isn't convinced by one of his buddies to atleast get a lawyer and see what happens. It's your right to have an officer come out just as much as it is his.

Report it. Looks like you're in Oregon based on your plates. I haven't dealt with anything like this up here but when I lived in Texas and a car caused me to wreck on my bike, I went after his ass with a lawyer. Based on your story, it doesn't seem like it's your fault so you may want to be the first one to go to the police.

I would first delete this thread. Then I would call my local police department to report it.
