Why doesn't anyone own an SR5?

Anyone here still have a stock SR5? Looking to see if someone can get me measurements of the rear end from center of wheel hub to the fender on their stock 16' or 17' taco.

 

I purchased the 4x4 SR5 and couldn't be more happy. If you look at these forums you'll notice a lot of the guys changing out the wheels, buying sr5 grills to trade out, and painting the lower part of the front bumper black. I was able to get everything exactly how I wanted it without paying a premium for the trd wheels that I don't like, or any of the other BS. You do give up crawl control, a manual transmission, and some other upgrades, but those things aren't important to me, as I just got 4x4 to get up snowy mountains and the occasional offroad need. I sure as hell won't be taking my 30+ truck rock crawling or anything close to that. I was able to get out the door for 30k flat for my truck, which I thought was a great deal.

EDIT: Do keep in mind that the base SR5 does not come with fender flares, you can however get the vanity package or whatever the hell they call it, that gets those for you. Again I personally love the way the truck looks without them at all.

From center to the fender i am getting right about 22 1/4" .. may not be exact but very close. Hope this helps

 

Looking at a couple SR5s myself. Wanted a manual so was having to go TRD but none in the region. Will find out how long to get a manual this weekend. Otherwise the SR5 will be fine.

Personally like the cleaner lines of the SR5. Like the TRD Sport but no ugly wheels. I like the darker Satin wheels on the SR5 as good as any factory wheel out there right now.

Swap rear leaf pack and do some coils/shocks on the front along with some 265/75-16s and I will be good to roll up n down the asphalt. We do own 50 acres and work it a little bit and I hunt/fish constantly but no serious offroading here, maybe some fun in the mud a few times a year but thats it.

Clazzio covers with heat will be in there if I go SR5 as well.

 

I didn't even pay for the SR5 package. I've been waiting 2 weeks for my SR (2017 DCSB 4x4) to come in, and I'll gladly keep waiting to save the extra thousands over other trims. I did insist on getting the convenience package (keyless entry, cruise control), as well as the tow package though.

None of the other options make sense to me.

• Foglights don't matter (already ordered replacement front bumper)
• Chrome bumpers are ugly
• GPS in-dash can't beat my phone, with free updates and realtime traffic
• Fancy display? Shiny, sure, but the SR has one just as functional
  
• TMPS upgrade? Can I just get it without TPMS? It never works right anyways
• Factory tint is a negative (adding darker than stock aftermarket tint anyways)
• Suspension? I'm waiting for my truck to be delivered, and I've already spent $2.5k on suspension upgrades.

Going past SR5, the options just get more silly. Trucks have horrible acoustics. If I want quality music, I'll veg out at home with a pair of studio monitors. If I'm taking a call, I'll do it on my Bose BT module that I can just walk into the office with, instead of fiddling with anything. Sunroof? That's actually a negative on a truck. Limited leather seats? They're doo doo brown. I already ordered Clazzios anyways.

Really, I think the only reason to get a higher trim package is to get the locker that comes with the TRD Offroad. Even then, you can take an SR and pay someone to add onboard air + ARB lockers for less than the jump from an SR to a TRD offroad, and get front and rear lockers plus onboard air. Seriously:

I'm sitting at $32k OTD for my SR. I'll have a truck with stage 2 Fox suspension, AT tires, armor (bumper, sliders, IFS skid), and comforts like leather seats and ceramic tint for less than $36k. If I want to drop ~$3k and pay someone to install air lockers front and back later, I won't lose sleep on it. It's not like I'm going to do any heavy offroading in a 35k truck anyways.

The real question is, why doesn't everyone own an SR?

 

I do think that you won't regret getting the SR5, most bang for your buck IMO.

We just bought our SR5 10 days ago. We needed the factory tow package, double cab, 4x4 and short bed. We looked and looked again at the SR5, TRD and Limited and kept coming back to the SR5. It will do everything we want it to do. After break-in, most of the time we will be towing a 17' Casita trailer (which is easily towed with our 2006 Highlander Hybrid). 4X4 will be handy if needed but we have a Polaris RZR for the serious off road adventures. Double cab was needed as the rear seats will almost always be folded down so our two dogs can ride in their kennels on the rear seat backs. Nothing wrong with the TRD or Limited, they are both really nice trucks with lots of handy features but the only thing we thought we would really like would be the "his and hers" dual zone temperature controls. For the extra cost, we knew we would not make use of all the extra features on the TRD or Limited. I'm sure there are a lot of people who have bought the SR5 trim. They are hard to find where we live but we are very happy with ours.

 

I respect your opinions, and here is my answer to why I got the TRD OR over all the other trims:

1. MT
2. I don't have the time or patience (and in some cases the know how) to modify an SR to decent off road specs
3. My last truck didn't have built in nav and I don't have a smart phone. BTW, the nav system on mine does have real time traffic.
4. MT
5. My last truck was taken from me unexpectedly. Decided to treat myself

The 2016 SR5s were cheaper. $2700 less than the TRDs compared to only $2000 less in 2017.

Not to mention that all pricing went up for 2017. I was otd for less than $32k for a dclb sr5 4x4.

 

Two reasons I choose a trd over an sr...
1. no MT
2. no Inferno

 

I've seen sr5s in inferno.

 

I don't have a new Tacoma but my friend who lives next to me has a long bed SR5 and he loves it, the way I look at it is you're kinda paying for the name because if you plan on just building the shit out of it and replacing everything? Why pay thousands of extras for things you will never use? What's the point?

 

I got a 16 SR5 Access Cab. I love it. This pic was in August when I got it. Its buried in snow right now here in Mass.

 

No manual option, otherwise I would have....
