So my state offers veteran license plates to members of the armed forces. Part of me thinks it's pretty cool. The money goes to supporting local military programs etc etc.

The problem is I feel that it would draw some unwanted attention. I don't know if I'd call myself paranoid but I don't like broadcasting I'm in the military while off duty.

I sort of want to get one but I'm apprehensive about it as well. Figured I'd get some opinions from some of the fellas in here.

Let me know what you guys think! Should I go for it?

    Just a couple things
I never did just because I never wanted to have the unwanted attention like you said.

I can totally understand that, but...
If you are a Purple Heart recipient and your state has free tags what do you do??

we have one on one vehicle most dont even pay attention a couple nod their heads or every once in a while will ask what service at home depot. Most are oblivious to anything that isnt an app on their smart phones to even notice a vehicle much less a vehicle with veteran plates.

As everyone else said. The unwanted attention is one thing I'd really not want to deal with. There is a officer in town that has pulled over multiple friends (4-7 miles over the speed limit). I've been told he usually has a comment like "just because your in the military doesn't make you above the law." Or some other bs. They all have OIF/OEF veteran stickers or military plates.

I have them but it saves me about $50/yr to get them over standard plates.

I don't think it's that common. Usually there is a mutual respect between the two but there are a few.

I agree. When I was in Boise area there was a State police that was a former Marine that would pull people over and when the showed their military ID and it said Air Force he usually gave the person a ticket. Just to be an ass. But most cops respect the military no matter what branch.

I have vet plates on my truck. Never had an issue. Had another vet salute me once. We also pay extra for vet plates in WV.

For anyone in Oregon with a VA rating, the plates and registration are free. You can use the plate on anything registered in your name including an RV which cost a shit load more based on length. It is $7 to switch the plate to another vehicle/RV.

Also want to add for any from here, If you have a 50%(I think it's 50?) or more rating you get your hunting/fishing license for free. You still have to pay for the tags and tag lottery I think.

I only place my veteran plates on my American vehcle. F150 yes. Lincoln yes. Tacoma no. Nissan Leaf no. It's my opinion and my personal stance. Bust my balls about it if you wish.

Nope. No ball busting from here. If you earned the plate, you earned the right to display it how you wish.

I had this same thought. Getting ready to move back to mass after this deployment and vet plates are discounted but bronze Star plates are free. I like free but don't like displaying anything military on my vehicle.

60% in Idaho I believe. I wish it was lower, VA only gave me 20%.
