Tacoma Lift FAQ/Guide - READ THIS

I recommend getting the new bilstein 6112's and 5160s. It'll ride like butter plus you can adjust to compensate for the "taco lean". Just my 2 cents

I'm not sure if this is the place to ask this but here goes. So sometime down the road I'm planning on getting a plate bumper. I currently have 3" spacers in the front. My question is what coilovers are strong enough to maintain that amount of lift? What would you guys recommend?

 

Are you looking at doing away with the spacers and doing a coil over lift? Just trying to make sure I understand your question completely.
Also are you planning on going with a steel or aluminum bumper? Skids, sliders, or winch?
All these will play into your decision of the weight rate of the coils?

 

If I can still keep the height I'd like to do away with the spacers. I'm looking at the pelfreybilt steel bumper, a winch, and sliders.

 

It's doable. Sounds like you will want to go with700lb coils(imho). As far as what brand of shocks, that depends on your budget. It appears a lot of the guys go with old man emu (ome) or you can go more higher end and go icon or kings. You will also need new upper control arms.

 

What I should have asked first is if I mess with the suspension is that going to void my warranty?
Also if I get new UCAs do I have to get new lowers too?

 

Mods should only void the warranty of the parts and/systems modded.
you won't have to do the lowers. One of the biggest reason for doing the uca's is for alignment purposes.

 

1.) I personally am against front spacers and\or any type of block in the rear... axle wrap and blah blah. For a few hundred dollars more you could do billy 5100s front and rear for like $300 get 2.5 or so inches and clear 285s...or get the newer 6112 and 5160 billys and maybe an aal. Better ride then blocks and spacers

2.) don't need new UCAs imo unless you go over 4 inches (then new gear come into play)

3.) this is all just my opinion. Not a fan of cheap lifts , I've ever looked into icons and ect but the new Billy's are butter.

 

Well see, this is my first Tacoma and no one else I know has one so it's all new ground for me. That's why I ask so many stupid questions on here.lol As I've learned more about all things Taco I'm wanting to switch them out for something that's beneficial to my truck. That's why I posted here cause I need input on what will help me keep my ride height/run 285/75s. My problem now is that I have ZERO knowledge about when/why I'll need UCAs

 

Thank you sir! I'll ask Toyota a bunch of questions the next time I get my oil changed. I'm the mean time I'll be looking into Billisten, OME, Total Chaos etc. I don't plan on going any bigger than 285s and from the best that I can tell I should be able to run those with minimal scrubbing. As long as I can clear those and keep ride height I'll be a happy camper.

 

Usually new UCAS are due to wheel spacing or rubbing when turning ect

 

I may have missed it but is there a difference the progressive aal? Is there any reason to buy one over the other? I can think of 6 different options right now. I don't need u-bolts. Are any of them better for loads or flex? I had the Icons on my last truck but i have no clue if they are worth the extra ~$60 over the wheelers.

 

Someone has posted before that icon, wheelers and the headstrong progressive aal's were all made by the same manufacturer .

 

I have heard that but being made in the same facility doesn't mean they are made to the same specs. I was just curious if there was a difference between any of them since there are so many of the same thing.

 

Any idea why a carrier bearing drop isnt a good idea (driveline drop not front diff drop) as sais in the OP?

 

I have 33s 06 double cab. Want a better ride . its all over the road leans to driver side front and back. Front suspension is really what i want what do you have? send pics and what it cost to do it and hows the ride after? thank you guys

 

Asking here since I dont know where to ask. I am wondering for the couple days my icon rear shocks are being rebuilt can I run stock 2017 trd sport shocks? A buddy of mine is letting me barrow his and Im curious if I will be topping or bottoming out with my dakars and shackle flip (3-4 inch of lift)

I already told you, brother. You don't need shocks on pavement for a couple days. Your leafs will do just fine.

 

Honestly, you'll be fine for street driving. The shock will be your limit strap and your bump stop for the time being so no off-roading or unnecessary flexing unlkess you don't give a fuck about the stock shock. I did the same thing when I had mine serviced. Icon had them back to me in less than a week.
Worst case scenario, you can run shockless, but your rear end will be bouncing all over the place. Not ideal, but possible if you change your driving style for the time being.
