Nice box! What speaker and amp are those? And the box?

 

Has anyone installed an aftermarket head unit with this Setup? Necessary?

 

I think some of the processing the standard kits do is not necessary when using an aftermarket HU. They can set the DSP/AMP up for the particular HU you plan to run I have heard.

Had I decided to go aftermarket with the HU I would have probably pieced my system separately as I have done that before successfully. I didn't want to have to mess with DSP, AMP, and speakers with my stock HU. I actually like it. ( Entune Audio Plus).

Anyone know of the best price on these systems? Where to buy?

 

Buy direct from O+. Not many 3rd party vendors sell it and they seem to be selling it at the same price. They are built to order so I don't see many deals to be had.

 

One other question. This system is tuned for the double cab, so does that mean the head unit EQ remains neutral (at 0 for the levels) for proper sound?

 

Have high and lows set 1 notch above flat

mids are flat

 

After install I had the following settings:
Treble 4
Mid 1
Bass 3
Volume usually around 15-20

Three weeks later I have relaxed the Trebble to 2 and mid flat. Bass is adjusted from 3 to 2 depending on music selection volume usually around 10-15 unless I want to roll windows down and rage. Then 35-40 is nice.

On a given day I listen to Pantera, Pantyraid, Pretty Lights, Johnny Cash, Beastie Boys, Jim Croce, Nelly, Led Zepplin, Disturbed, Jurassic 5, Alice In Chains, Ali Farka Toure, Zeal and Ardour, Mos Def, Roots, Rokia Traore, Zohar, Adele, ZZ Ward, Sela Sue.

Shits all over the place.

I also have auto sound levelizer on Low.

Guessing your pretty happy with the sound quality for all genres?

 

Yes. One cool thing. I listen to sports radio sometimes and then music. The Radio doesn't have the booming bass with vocals that the stock system had. I'd have to turn down the bass constantly. Now I just switch sources and the sound is what I'd expect to hear.

Gotta say my previous system was kind of muddled compared to the OEM Audio +.

Pantera "I'm Broken " sounded amazing on my old system ( 10 yr old Polk audio components @50w 10" bazooka @ 250w) but that's because of the low end bias.

But on the OEM Audio the quality is much better. Turns out I was listening to lower quality sound thinking it was good. I'm Broken still sounds bomb but more accurate.

The quality is where this system shines.

Let the system "run in" 3wks. and the depth will impress you. The volume of the bass is not what this system is about. It is enough to make you smile and it'll move your mirrors but it won't blow your comb over back.

I friggin' love that Pantera song! So what source were you playing this with...CD, Mp3? I only have Mp3's some good some great but no CD's

 

Yes, one of my favorites. I love the bass undertone that reverberates throughout the song. On my older system, I can feel that note in my stomach. On the OEM Audio, I can hear it perfectly and if driven loud enough felt a bit as well.

Funny thing for the longest time I had listened to their Official Live: 101 Proof recording and hadn't heard the originals in forever. I Downloaded their Best of recently and just wasn't feeling the originals. Compositions were a little different and the live recording just felt warmer. Most noticeable part was Phil Anselmo's voice when he was younger was cleaner and a tad higher pitch. On 101 Proof it's gravelly and has that "been around the block with a bottle of whisky" feel to it that just sounds better with their energy.

MP3. Used to have CD but they got scratched a while ago. Some of my MP3's from years of transferring between computers have gained "artifacts". When they start to sound "Tinny" or very compressed, I have bought them from iTunes. I've pretty much moved on from my CD collection and have it MP3 now.

I haven't figured out how to plug my iPhone 6 in and play music yet. Each time it says I need to read manual on how to set up an iPod. Still don't know what I'm doing wrong. Bluetooth streaming works well enough for me. I'd like to see if CD or wired connection sound better or what the differences are.

Yeah there is definitely something about Phil's grainy as F...traveled vocals in those live versions. I got the pleasure of seeing Pantera twice and the shows were pretty crazy!

I have an iPhone 6 as well but really havent messed around with the audio in my Tacoma much because dont want to use up all my work phones data haha. So I am not sure if you use iTunes for listening at home but I do and the sound it produces is so painful on my ears I couldnt take it. I'm a Apple guy and thats where all my music is stored so eventually I ended up downloading Amarra and wow what a difference. Also Pure Music is another one. They have free demos to sample before you buy. Off topic I know but the thought of an iTunes based system makes me cringe. As expensive as Apple computers are you would think they would up their audio game

I bought a few albums off of hdtracks.com when I really needed something to sound good...CD quality. The OEM Audio upgrade will be my next adventure. Rock on! \m/

 

Does the OEM Audio sound better than the JBL package?

 

Upgrade from factory Toyota audio to the OEM Audio Plus set up. I forgot to type the "plus" part which might have caused some confusion

Hadn't tried the 3.5 line in yet. I like the ease of bluetooth. I just tried it and got it to work but I couldn't for the life of me tell the difference between the two quality wise.

I was previously plugged into the USB but it wouldn't play music from the phone.
