What about the surging issue

Has anyone heard if Toyota is looking into the surging issue that plagues our trucks? Like when you are sitting at a traffic light and it wants to lurch foward. I think they ought to look into it. I took mine into the dealer both here in corona and where I bought it in OC. Both dealers said they could not replicate the problem. Could be a software problem with the hill assist? Just a thought.

 

The a/c compressor..

 

I have an auto and experience a lurch a few seconds after coming to a stop. It only happens when the A/C compressor is on (which does engage when the defroster is on) and it's in time with the compressor cycle. Essentially when the compressor switches I feel the lurch. Turn the compressor off (which is has been off most of this winter) and it never happens... turn it on for even 2 minutes and the next stoplight I hit it happens again.

I don't consider this to be a real problem... as long as you have reasonable pressure on the brake pedal you won't move, and what I experience is definitely tied to the compressor turning on/off.

 

The hill assist is to keep your truck from rolling back on a hill. Both Auto and manual have the system. Holding the brake is not the solution. If you hold the brake like any other vehicle it lurches foward. I had my last Toyota truck for 18 years and no problems. This truck has been doing this since I bought it in 2007.

 

I own a 2010 and also, have noticed my truck doing that occasionally when at a stoplight/sign. It doesn't matter if i'm on an incline or on flat road or have the A/C on or off. I always get paranoid and think some A-hole rode up behind me and nudged my bumper...

 

Mine does the same. Its not like a major issue but they should address it

 

I knew subaru had a hill assist at one time but in the 30 + years of driving Toyota with manuals I can't remember Not rolling back slightly when starting on a hill


Actually I kinda like rolling back a little, it wakes those folks up behind me that seem they need to creep up closer and closer while waiting for the light to change
