Thats why you choose one without a floor. Deploy over the stuff and make room.

Not sure how a RTT is any better for these use cases? You're better off sleeping on the ground or hanging a hammock if you aren't going to stay put after you setup the tent.

Bed tents are nice when you're not staying for a long time and you don't haul a ton of crap around with you. I enjoy mine, works well with my two dogs.

It's nice to have but I thought it was a pain in the ass setting up and taking down when going on trails. It's nice if you're just going to camp but if you're off-roading during the day and camping it's a hassle.

Why doesnt your dog sleep outside??

Mine will sleep either under the RTT or outside. If I get a cap he will be in the cap.

You can also bring folding wire crates...

I haven't really used the annex, but dog could sleep in there. Usually I throw her up in the tent with me and she sleeps by my feet at the door, or in the truck at night depending on the condition and who else is with me for the trip. and FWIW, I have a Chocolate Lab.... ~60lbs

Dude this really has me intrigued! Currently I got a fiberglass tonneau cover on mine and normally just sleep in the bed with the tailgate down for my feet with the tonneau cover a few inches from my head. I know many say wtf when they see this set up, but it actually helps hold the heat when closed. I like that this tent could also wrap around over the tailgate as well. Does it take long to set up? I couldn't imagine wheeling with it, but rather just putting it together after we are done for the day.

Yep, when I saw the models with a floor I had the same thoughts about lack of convenience.

This model will even deploy (a little tightly) over a folded OEM tonneau, when then serves as a shelf to set stuff on. And bang you knee against when you're not paying attention. ;)

Ten minutes or so after having practiced a couple times. Really pretty quick.

You'll have a larger footprint with a RTT, so more room for you and your dogs/people. The width of the truck bed tent may be an issue. Also the RTTs help with bears thing is nonsense. With the majority of bears in the lower states being black bears that are known to climb trees with easy and then there's brown bears that can be 8 feet or taller when standing. RTTs at best help with not getting water logged as easily.

On mine (SportzTent), all I have to do is undo the straps, and set it on the ground assembled. Reverse when done roading.

Those seem nice enough if you're wanting to camp amongst trees. I already have a Hennessy Hammock for that though. Doesn't work so well when camping out in a meadow or on a bald. ;)

Full disclosure, I'm just a Noob haven't actually used either one of these types of tents. But, no insult to anyone, it seems an awful lot of people here on Tacoma world don't use their truck as a truck very much. I am constantly hauling things in the back of my truck that have nothing to do with off-roading or camping. So an RTT is super convenient for camping, but it turns the hauling capability of the truck into the hauling capability of an SUV.

I'm not insulted, but might suggest you consider that "use their truck as a truck" may mean different things for different people.

Is there padding under the parts of the tent that rest on the paint? A bottomless bed tent seems like a perfect solution for someone who doesn't camp enough to justify a RTT.

No, it's just tent nylon. I don't cinch the straps down super tight and I don't ride around with it installed.

With a white truck I'm also not as concerned with microscratches. I've owned a black vehicle before. Never again. :)

My dear wife thinks Days' Inn is "roughing it" so camping is just me getting away for a day or two.
