Craigslist selling......

if he can give you a check for 1000 then im sure he can just give you 1000 in cash tell him that cash or no sale

Think about it this way, lead him on and let him send a check. If it is a scam, that's one less check that someone else might get f*cked on!

 

what about if you did this through PayPal? Then you have them for back-up on the money

I wouldn't deal with him at all... local, cash only! I've seen too many times by my (UPS) customers getting burnt after checking with their banks that the check cleared, and actually the check was a fake after a month or so after the alleged clearence from their bank. I'm sure this is a scam being run off shore somewhere, most likely Nigeria. Just be safe Geoff and good Luck!

 

Scam for sure. His first email said 'item' and never mentioned what you were selling. Anybody else would say, is your dining room set still available. saves them time to respond to thousands of craigslist sellers so they don't have to keep editing their programmed response. 'item'

 

Those checks are fake..they look real even to the bank, The way it works is this, the bank cashes it gives you the $$$ then in two weeks or so they find out the check is a fake so who is responsible for the bank getting their money back...it's you!

 

I can understand this kind of scamming going on with cars/trucks and high dollar/rare items... but a dining room table for a thousand bux???

had the samething happen to me when i sold a winch on cl and gave me the same story and a number to call, i told him local p/u only and cash only and he said hed get back up with me and never did

 

Fuck no bro I hope you didnt give them your address, No one pays by check on craigslist. My dad always said "Son if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is". I would cancel and buy a gun just in case.

If you gotta ask, do it NOT...sounds too shady, lotta good advice in previous posts...been around a awhile, seen some pretty crafty scammers; kinda like selling a 12 gauge...tell the dude the gun is free, but the buckshot will cost him dearly...personally, I'd wait for a more legit offer, paitience grasshopper...

 

I have received the same exact email scam before when selling on craigslist. Don't buy into the bullshit and don't give out any more of your information. Beware!!
