Cant locate my coolant drain plugs on the engine..anyone help me here?

I looked in the service manual and it shows two of them, but I cant see them or feel them anywhere on the block. Anyone know their exact location?

you should have a drain on the bottom of the radiator..

 

I couldn't find them either and didn't bother to drain the block. Most of the times if you drain the block you'll only end up getting an air bubble in the system and air lock the engine.

If its the 1GRFE, the drain is located near the bottom of radiator on driver's side. It does not look like a typical drain valve, its plastic and looks alot like the plastic push fasteners on places all over the truck.

According to the service manual there are three drains. 1 on the bottom of the rad and two (if memory serves) on the engine. Draining the rad only drains 1/2 the system.

 

I know about the one on the radiator, but I would like to get the coolant out of the engine as well. The service manual diagram shows 3 of em.

I just cant find the ones on the engine.

 

I think its a typo - I searched and searched and couldn't find them.

 

I wonder if they are behind the pulleys somewhere.

 

How often are you changing the coolant?

 

One is located on the engine block on the left side toward the front. Look where the left motor mount bolts and forward. The other is on the right side of the block toward the rear. May need to remove skid plate to see. Right and left are from the driver's seat. You will drain a lot of more coolant.

Two and a half gallon capacity (about) will let you know how much you actually got out.

No, I was looking for the drains FROM the top. Not on the top. The picture in the service manual is deceiving. They should have used crayons and I would have understood it better.

I want to drain the radiator in my 05 Tacoma Pre-runner

Anything I should know or some tips before doing a drain and refill on the radiator?

I know to use the pink Long Life Toyota Coolant

After I refill the radiator how can I burp out any air?

Can I just run the engine with the radiator cap off at idle to burp it?

Should I also leave the coolant jug cap off when running the engine at idle to burp it?

The two engine block drains can be most easily accessed through the wheel wells. I was able to loosen them using 2 foot extensions.

 

Can someone post some photos of the two plugs on the engine block, I can't find.... ugh
