Ok, Here is the deal...I hate my job. My dream was since I was a lil bitty kid was to be a Police Officer. My dad is a Houston Police Officer, But I was wanting some info from any of ya'll.

I don't want to live or work in Houston. I know that the Teclose requies me to have 12 credit hours to be certified...That's not a problem, Im going to school this summer. But I would love to move/work in either Fort Worth, Tx or Oklahoma City, Ok...I love both of those cities...In oklahoma from what I read I wouldn't need any "college" to get my "CLEET"http://www.ok.gov/cleet/. Oh By the way I have a GED, I know it was a big mistake to get one, But I now have to better myself and move on.

My question is what did ya'll have to go through to become a police officer?
What would be the thing for me to do?

I dont know for sure, but you might have to be a resident and posess a DL in that state before you can apply, I know thats how it was out here for the Highway Patrol.

I dont know what CLEET is, but also, you might have to have the post academy in the state your applying for, if that makes sense. I dont know if post is a state certified thing or what but you might want to look into it. Also, how old are you? Why wouldnt you want to work in Houston? It helps tremendously to have a foot in the door, especially now a days.

As far as what you have to go through, again I am in CA, but I am in the process now and what I have had to go through is a test (on english stuff), physical agility test, Oral interview, personal history statement (everything you have done sine you were born), Go through an extensive background, voice stress analysis, Psych test, medical evaluation. I am going for the Highway Patrol which puts on their own academy, so I dont need to have post to apply. I hope this helps, I know it isnt much but Its what I am going through right now.

I looked at the requirments for both. It doesnt specify you having to be a resident with OK, just says the U.S. and have a valid drivers license, but doesnt say for OK. Now it says something about meeting the requirments of the State Police Pension Board, but I dont know what that is. Looks like they put you through their own academy too and pay you, so that is a huge plus.

I wanna do the same here.

Gotta learn to keep your nose clean, do the right thing when no one is looking, get some college credits, and military experience.

That's what I'm doing right now...

In CA, there's a severe budget problem so about 90% of the police departments are on hiring freeze...

You get do the military reserves while going to college. They help out with tuition too.

I'm in the reserves and going to school at the same time...

What dept. are you hoping to work for?

The Navy and Marines see GED applicants as tier 2 status. You can up yourself to tier 1 status by doing a semester of college I believe.

I'm shooting for SFPD or CHP.
