heres a question for you more experienced guys. I read the post on camping supplies and probably glossed over recovery gear on the moab tread. so, what gear do y'all carry? trips and everyday? when I get my lift will I always have to use a high lift? what adapters/accessories do you have for it? I figure maxtrax (or similar), air compressor, tire puncture kit, shackles, tree saver and various straps. what else? thanks

I carry a full set of tools (all tools needed to replace a common breaking part on a Tacoma). Shackles, pull straps, snatch block, tree saver, Hi Lift, Hi Lift handle all (Adds a axe/shovel/pick/sledge to the handle of a High lift), zip ties, bedliner (for bumper and slider touch ups) and of course the winch in the bumper. This I carry every day.

U-Joints, CV axles, tire plug kit, fire extinguisher, first aid kit, engine and gear oils are all on the list before Moab. All the camping and survival gear will be loaded. I'm likely forgetting multiple things.

I've considered an OBA, but I just don't think I'll have the money to blow before the trip hits.

gear is a matter of prefference and what you feel comfortable using. And also about your skill level the most important thing you can add to your rig is a well experienced driver. Go take some course do some reading do what it takes to become a experienced driver not just oh ive played in some mud holes. But what it takes to evaluate lines and obstacles on the trail.

But when it comes to recovery gear here is what i carry when on the trail and what i carry everyday:
    On the trail:
    hi-lift
    recovery Boards
    tire puncture kit
    air gauge
    deflator
    first aid kit
    long strap 20'
short 6' strap (both rated to twice the capacity of my vehicle)
    a saw of sorts
    fuses
    fuel
    oil
    zip ties
    wire
    spare tire
    on board air compressor
    fire extinguisher

    Everyday:
    tire puncture kit
    air gauge
    deflator
    first aid kit
    long strap
    short strap
    saw
    fuses
    zip ties
    spare tire
    on board air compressor

get the idea? oh and i have jacked my truck up with it being lifted with the factory jack it can be done it sucked but i got it done

I was going to try helen ga on spring break. Found a video on YouTube of some tacomas. Guy sent me the thread with a ton of files I haven't downloaded yet. Didn't feel comfortable to do all the trails, easy as they may be, until I'm properly set up. @Davtopgun @dcoursler thanks for the info

Speaking of shackles I need to rig up a way to have shackles on the front of the TJM. I have no clue why it doesn't have any shackle tabs.

You'll want sliders and skids before attempting anything difficult. Both are simply insurance. They protect the most expensive parts of your truck.
