So I have a 2005 SR5 with the V6, and it's started jumping whenever I try to drive it. Any help?

When I throw the car into gear to move forward (any gear on an automatic), it idles until I give it gas. Then it feels like the rear is throwing itself into the floor of the vehicle. It doesn't do anything in reverse.

Does it drive okay when you are rolling?

How many miles on your truck?

Recent problem did it start today, or is this ongoing?

First, do you hear any mechanical grinding or banging?

If you dont most likely an engine problem. It might be simple like a plugged air filter, or fuel filter.

If you do hear banging or some thing mechanical

If you go under the truck grab the drive shaft and try to roll it by hand.... the truck should be off of course. If that's good and there is not excessive play. You might have a transmission problem.

The more more info you can provide us the more help we can provide you.

Also, tell us what work if any has been done on the truck in the last few months

I do here a banging, the driveshaft does not turn at all by hand. Only work in the past few months was an oil change, just got it last summer.

Can you tell where the banging is coming from? Does it feel like it is under your seat or is it coming from the rear of the truck.

Feels like the rear, that's part of why I said it felt like the rear end was throwing itself into the floor

Does that mean every thing is fine in reverse, backs smoothly, accelerates well, etc?

Or does that mean it does 'nothing', as in it just sits there, and won't move?

A few thing I think it could be..

Blown diff, but if that was the case you would here this when you are driving.

Stuck drive shaft there is a bearing on the drive shaft called a carrier bearing. This could be seized or blown. ( second best guess) this is on the drive shaft between the bed and the cab.

A broken leaf spring. (This is my best guess)

or the least likely a set of broken shocks.

Sorry forget get what I have said then...
You description was unclear to me.

You have a blown differential or your transmission has failed.

Jack up the entire rear (under the pumpkin) disconnct the driveshaft at the differential. If the rear wheels spin and there are no chucky bizzare noises or feeling transmitted through the tires as you are touching/turning them, the transmission is kaputz.

If the rear won't turn or turns in a weird way, it's kaputz.

Be sure you follow all safety precautions in doing this test, including level hard surface, jack stands, etc.

We are not responsible for you being maimed or killed.

If you do not have the tools or skills to try this, have it towed, but tell the wrecker you call that the rear may be locked up so they bring appropriate equipment to use.

Let us know what the end result is.

BTW, this diagnosis is brought to your via the interwebz, with no guarantee of accuracy. It's worth exactly what you paid for it.

Good luck, and hope I'm wrong, because neither guess is cheap!

Differential and brakes both were kaput according to stealership, they fixed it for 2300. Would've done it myself, but already had had it towed to them.
