As soon as it gets warmer! This just came in today!

Trying to decide if i'm gonna do the old fashion fiberglass/resin and bondo...or try that new method that is floating around here (plastic and expoxy)

I'm making a new grille and I've actually cut about 1.75'' off the inner lip so it isn't as recessed. I've hit a few snags along the way but it's coming along well. I did it because I'm trying to fit a bigger light behind them, the Hella 500's just aren't cutting it for me anymore.

^what type of snags? I was thinking to just mount the grill craft 1 about 1/2 of the way in. and just leave the extra behind the grill instead of cutting it like you. do you have any pics?

I think the grillcraft is too big to do this. You either need to put it up front (non-satoshi), or behind the lip (satoshi).

If you wanted it less recessed, you would have to cut the lip as 1BlkT said.

Okay...i get it! I wonder how hard it would be to cut the lip so it sits flush with the grill?

    Yup!

Any pics of the 1/2 satoshi progress ???

I think having it recessed only 1/2 the way would look gangbusters!

Cutting it isn't too bad, I used a dremel with the cutting wheel and it went right through it. So make sure you measure it out first, if it's off a little I came back with an orbital palm sander and smoothed out the high-lows.

Also remember the grille has the plastic piece on the bottom that fits in the hole. If you cut too much off the lip you will also be losing that plastic piece. I don't think it will affect it too much but I figured it was there to help align the grille up correctly so I left it. My solution was to leave it and notch around it, but that meant I had to notch my grill material to go up and over that portion.

The other issue is if you cut too much off the overlap from the grille material might be rubbing against the tabs where you grille snaps into the headlight tabs on the sides. That's what I'm dealing with now, I keep gradually make the grille slightly smaller so it doesn't get too caught up on those tabs, but still have enough material that it hangs over the lip.

None of it is very difficult, just plan on doing multiple test fits ;)

Hmm...looks deeper in this photo than it does in person. I bought a base model grille to do this to so I wouldn't mess up my current satoshi.

Ah come on! Everybody recesses it all the way :p. I'm just giving you a hard time. I wouldn't be going through the trouble if I didn't have too. My gf got me the Kragen 7'' HID offroad lights for xmas and now I'm struggling to fit them , I still don't know if I'm going to have enough room to mount them back there.

Kind of an old trend but just got finished doing a shallow satoshi.Used the grillcraft because I didnt want a deep satoshi and wasnt so sure how hard it would be to make one not as deep.If i screwed it up I could just install the grillcraft and cover it up.But it came out ok.Just had to trim where bottom tab of grill clips onto headlighthousing.Saw couple others here with the shallow satohi also.Heres some pics

    Looks good!

How deep is it? The pic of mine a couple posts up looks deeper but I had to notch around the bottom post, if I didn't it would've been cut completely off. Did you notch around that bottom post or is your's not that shallow?
