Steven this is supposed to be a fun thing. Work and other priorities will sometimes have to come first and usually do at the worst times. I appreciate the heads up and hope you can make it.

Oh I know. It was just a heads up. Trust me, I'm still gonna try. I'm craving some parmesan garlic wings. Lol.

Just a heads up for everyone here. I have extended an invitation to the NOVA thread. There may be a couple who attend. I probably should have done this from the beginning but James and I discussed it and we both felt that especially this first meet would be nice for just us to get to know each other. Perhaps we were mistaken as the close area we live in they will probably have things you may like to attend.

Anybody here up on the Virginia DMV laws regarding aftermarket lighting? Basically, what's legal, what's illegal, and what's illegal but I can probably get away with?

Depends on what you are going for...for most lights besides dedicated lower fogs need to be covered. Headlights can have HIDs, but you might get hit if you don't have a projector set up...also anything in the 8k (ice blue) range and higher you can get a ticket for. With lightbars that are noticeable and not hidden, likely need a cover if they are higher than your headlights. I have gotten my truck inspected with my retro fit HIDs in mine without issue as they fell within the 4500-6500 color range.

So a roof-mounted LED bar is a no-no without a cover. Can you buy covers for LED bars?

Yep, actually a member got pulled the other day in the nova thread from a state trooper who was at a speed check. He literally turned on his lights, made a U-turn just to pull him over for the roof light bar. I have to admit this normally doesn't happen without a bigger offense...but there isn't much to do in VA it seems. What light bar are you going with, because of this story, I ordered a cover for mine.

Check these guys out, might have what you need. I would call and verify the length of your light bar and their cover before ordering.

Haven't exactly decided yet on what brand. I don't want an el-cheapo Chinese on but I ain't spending $500 either.

    Yeah, I'll probably call first.

I know a few up here who got the rough country light bars. I cant confirm a solution about a cover for them, although Im sure a generic one would work. Might not be a bad idea to shop around a little and ask about light bar solutions before committing on a purchase.

If you're just looking to go through inspection, you can use black duct tape over the bar (I'd put masking tape down first to keep the duct tape from leaving shit all over it) and as long as no light is emitted, they can't fail you for it. That being said, I've got 2 uncovered LED pods on my bumper wired hot to a switch and I've never been bothered by anyone for it.

Just a heads up. A young man from JMU posted in the Charlottesville/ Lynchburg thread they will be having a car show at JMU on April 1st. I know no one is building a show truck but they are looking for trucks to enter. Entry fee is only $5, free food and music, may be fun but haven't checked calender yet
