Only happens when you take the load off the ring gear as far as I can tell. I've been playing with it. Can only get it loud enough to hear at about 55mph. If my theory is right it should happen regardless of speed. I'll work on it.

Thanks bro, I have not heard it at all from 0 to 100 mph on my SR Utility, almost 3000 miles on it.

...^^^... IIRC, Consumer Reports has never been a fan of the Tacoma.

I have lost a lot of respect for CR over the years ... not the same magazine as before.

Now, with the basic "internet reviews" ... this has basically killed CR.

 

When I got beat up the hill I was trying to stay 5 miles over the speed limit (45) and had the Transmission in D. I once tried the ECT button but i got a faint electrical burn smell after stopping and shutting off the engine. I am using regular unleaded Shell gas, next fill up i'll try midgrade. There is an unpleasant hesitation when I'm changing lanes and stepping on the gas. I didn't have as much hesitation with the 2014 tacoma. To minimize the hesitation, I have to drop to 3rd gear and I move a little more quickly.

They may have always said the Tacoma had a rough ride but when you looked at the reliability it was all red circles which meant much better than average, this time they are saying the reliability is below average.

 

Gotcha. Yeah I get the hesitation when down shifting or when it goes a gear too low and revs out for a second before shifting to a proper gear.

I just never considered my truck slow, other things maybe.

 

Not that this is a litmus test for the entire market, but when I bought my last two Tacomas, a one year old Tacoma with 20k or fewer miles was about $2k less than new (which is why I bought both of my previous Tacomas new)

When looking at the 17's I found I could get a used 16 (based on many for sale ads) for about $4-5k cheaper. Part of this may be that the overall price is higher, but the percentage of depreciation does appear to be higher that what I found in generation 1 and 2 trucks.

Either way, the Tacoma continues to have crazy stupid resale values compared to most other segments. Part of this has always been lack of competition in the segment, and I still feel that way. It will be interesting to see how the Ranger is priced when it comes out. I'd still take a Tacoma over a Colorado or Frontier.

 

Lease residuals are in the 70%+ range.

 

I have no idea what you're getting at, but I agree buying vehicles usually involves negotiating the final price down from the list price. I would have to assume KBB is predicting the final price a vehicle would actually return in value, not just a list price.

The predicted resale % remains #1 across every vehicle, and didn't really move between 2015, 2016 & 2017. Those are simple facts.

I guess I got spoiled by my 2014 tacoma. Even when using regular gas it wasn't so hesitant

 

Don't buy it then. The truck has plenty of power, you just have to get the RPMs up.

 

The way the engine makes power and the way this truck is geared, this is just how it is. It runs like a sewing machine, but it's going to turn rpms. The truck doesn't seem to mind.

Eh, my 4.3L 2002 S10 didn't have to do that stuff. It made low RPM torque. Of course at 5000 RPMs it felt like it was going to throw a rod, but it never did..... The 4.0 felt the same way.

V8 full size trucks don't do that stuff either.
