Hello Guys, So I have a very unusual problem. I just bought a 2001 Toyota Tacoma and it has driven fine for the last two weeks. One day when I was leaving work, I backed out and then put it in Drive, hit the gas, and it felt as it was just in neutral and the truck barely moved. Tranny Fluid level is good. I then turned my truck off, turned it back on, put it in drive and it took off perfectly fine. It has been doing this for about a week now and I have to turn it on, turn it off, ad turn it back on for the truck to actually drive!! This is driving me nuts because I cannot figure it out!
    Someone Help Please!!!!!

My fluid was pink and it was not low, my handbrake was off and I didn't feel anything stopping it, it just feels like its in neutral. When I hit the gas, the rpm's go up but the truck barely rolls.....

Sounds like your shifter lever is loose.

And then you turn off and restart the truck and it accelerates like normal? If so, I'm thinking it's gotta be something electronic or electrical.

Yes, when I turn it off and then turn it back on, it runs perfect. Its just irritating having to start it up twice.

Yeah man of course, that's definitely not normal and would be irritating. Plus the additional wear on the starter.

Do you think it would be the transmission at all?

Try moving the shifter slightly, maybe it's not engaged in the gear showing in the prndl

I'm having a similar issue with mine. It seems to get stuck in D2 and revs high but won't go over 45. I usually just have to go into neutral and back to drive.

This that and the other thing.
have u tried running thru the gears before you turn it off then back on again? play with the shifter a little see if theres a sweet spot to get it to engage? I would be leaning towards more like what @Hondah said. loose shifter lever maybe?
