If it only came w a manual. Makes the decision process a little harder. Weighing pros and cons.

I think for my uses the LB will be more beneficial than the gains that the M/T will give me.

I like my LB and MT but if I had to give up one of those it would be the bed length. I drive the truck more than I haul stuff and the MT makes the truck fun to drive. The slushbox would bore me to tears.

That was the choice l faced and as much as l wanted a LB the Manual was much more important.

I wanted a manual... All my cars have been manuals but my wife can't drive them and we almost ended in divorce when I tried to teach her. Its also super annoying when you have three cars and she can only drive one of them. So I sold my Subaru and got an automatic Tacoma. Longbed was a no brainer to me.

I still have my Jalopy for my manual "fix" though.

I got the LB because the SB just looks ridiculous.

Typically, there are no manuals in my area. Yesterday my salesman called me and said that someone ordered an ACSB OR MT, but the order somehow got screwed up and they sent a DCSB OR MT and the guy didn't want it. I rushed to the dealer to go see it. Thought I'd hit the jackpot. When I got there, it was black. Damn :(
No way am I ever getting another black vehicle. I think they look good, but it's not for me. If it would've been any color besides black (or red), I'd probably be driving a new truck today.

I'm thinking about going AC MT so I can have a 6' bed, but I'll more than likely have to go out of state to find one.

Oh, by the way, sales guy told me that the black OR took SIX MONTHS to come in. I bet the guy that ordered it was good and pissed off when he found out his truck finally came in and it wasn't what he ordered.

I can guess what happened, the guy ordered an OR AC Manual and that combo does not exist so they sent the only OR Manual combo they make DCSB. If you want an ACLB Manual then you have to settle for a Sport or if you like the SR.

The choice was made pretty easy for me. Canada only gets the Off-road double cab in a short box. Truth be told I have only filled up the back a couple of time.
    IMG_4915.jpg
That's about 500lbs of material and wire (and I do have pictures from being on a scale that can confirm that)

    IMG_4777.jpg
And yes that EMT pipe is 10' long but I was just driving it around the outside of the building when it was -20 Celsius other wise we just carry it lol.

For my own personal needs outside of work I have not "needed" the long box. If I had the option here to get the long box double cab off road I would have most likely gotten that. But I have no issues with the short box.

Okay, I was wondering about that. I know I've only seen that combination in sport. I tried to build an AC OR MT on Toyota's website and it wouldn't let me, but it also wouldn't let me chose certain colors that I know exist, so I wasn't sure.
Another thing it wouldn't let me do was choose an premium Entune for SR5, but I've seen new ones online with it.

Now I know my options are either Sport, or SR with the I4. I really wouldn't mind getting an SR, but I'd like to test drive one first. Can't find any to test drive though. The lots are full of TRD's.
I've been looking at Tacomas for months and I'm all over the place, from the cheapest 4WD available to the most expensive. I'm one indecisive SOB. Glad I'm not in a rush to buy.

Same here. Employer will be paying half of payment if I go $40k plus or even more if I go cheap since there will be a vehicle allowance but I still cannot decide between loaded SR5 or all out Sport.

Short bed may have a shorter wheelbase....but the long bed has the same break over angle as the short bed according to Toyota's Tacoma info packet. Interesting. Break over angle is what I am interested in when off roading.

I go on my mountain bike out somewhere almost daily. I just sold my 05 Tacoma Long BED it was 4 cyl 2WD and I just needed to upgrade but it was so easy just to sling in my Cannondale on its side in the back of the 05 Taco. I have not tried yet but it does not appear like a bicycle will fit lying down in the back of a short bed? Bueller?

Wanted a manual, and was confronted with the same issue. LB was easily the priority though; hard to call a truck that won't even fit my skis in the back a truck, so I got the AC. If a SB was an acceptable option, I'd have just gotten a 4 Runner. The dimensions of a SB are whack, IMO, and the DCLB would have just been too long.

The auto's not the greatest, but not as bad as most people will have you believe. No issue whatsoever offroad, just on highways. I don't buy a truck for the highway performance.

I am curious about how the LB turns and handles; it is hard to find one to test drive.

Have driven both, own a LB. Its not that big of a difference, even the ones that say its a huge difference, after a month of driving you know exactly how to swing the truck for a U-turn.

I back into 95% of the parking spots so parking has never been an issue for me.

Yes. I would have to second this as well. This was one if the few things I worried about with the Long Bed and it has been a non issue. If anything I have been impressed with how comfortable and nimble the DCLB has been on curvy mountain roads to trying to park in town every day I commute to work.

Rides better than my SB ever did and with the backup carmera, parking is a breeze.

Hardly...... five Toyota trucks in 30 years, only one had the little box. When the trucks first rolled out the long box was the regular box and all of the trucks had them. It wasn't until the quad cab came out in 01 that the stubby little box came out. Looked like shit but if you wanted four doors in a truck you had to deal with it until they made things right again. They did when they brought back the regular box on four door trucks.

You, my friend have learned to embrace the screw job.
