OK for you retrofit gurus out there, I've got fxr's currently, and looking to go with the d2s 4.0, since I've got the ballasts, and wires already, I just need the projectors? Or do I need other items also. I have an OEM set of headlights I'll be installing fresh.

Fo sho. I got side tracked removing my rear seats for power rear window, then side tracked on the seats by the arb compressor, then side tracked by too many projects going on at once, so I'll try to get up there today with those LCA's and skids to check out. Tomorrow I'll be side tracked by a trailer, so yeah. The struggle is real.

You will NEED nothing but some shrouds (unless you're taking those off the FX-R). I don't remember but I THINK (almost positive) the FXR used a 9006 plug for the hi/low function. If it didn't, you'll need the female end of one of those as the D2S 4.0 has the male end that comes with it.

Your harness is the same, bulbs are the same.

I would not recommend getting a new harness unless you absolutely need it. I ripped mine out of my GX after 3 warranty claims in 2 weeks. Sent it back and bought a XenonDepot kit.

I wish you could see my TRS account page. From 2010-2014 I never warrantied an item. From 2014-now I have warrantied like 3 sets of bulbs, a couple ballasts, a wiring harness, and 2 igniters. I don't know wtf is going on there, but I am over it.

I actually happen to have another set of shrouds, not sure of the style off the top of my head. Well that info and coincidentally, payday makes this purchase easier.

I edited my post to add a bit more... Basically don't buy a new harness.

Nice. If I remember correctly you didn't do your FX-R retrofit? That's a shame as you won't be able to truly understand the beauty of these threaded projectors. I spent a solid week on my FX-Rs and can now knock out a D2S kit in a few hours.

I would recommend getting the projectors mounted without the alignment rings, re-assembling the housings (with the adjustment screws in the middle of their range) and aiming the projectors/rotating them to align the cutoff with them on the truck. I have found the alignment rings are ALWAYS a touch off, and never look great. Using this method you'll be able to have them aimed well, and the cutoff dead on.

Correct, I bought them used from another member here, and they basically show the end result of what not to do. One is constantly fogging, and they kinda butchered one housing. It's sagging/drooping from over heating I'm guessing. They shine light tho.

In that case, be prepared to be blown away. The 3.0 had me thinking maybe I should make a new set. The 4.0 made me want to throw my headlights in the trash.

Haven't had any experience with the mini D2S 4.0's, but I've been pretty happy with the 3.0's at 55w. Light output is fantastic. Only gripes: installing in the small-ish 1st gen housings was a PITA; the shrouds needed to be modified to fit and refuse to stay attached to the projector housings; and getting the cut-off's to line up perfectly has been a whole lotta noooooope.

Such amaze, much wow. Looks like a good'n.

Shame the Volvo ain't in the shot. Must be scouting too far ahead.
