I've ridden quite a few similar bikes, with a higher price tag, and the Fezzari still beats them all.

You can get awesome full suspension bikes for under $1500 on Pinkbike.com. Look at Santa Cruz, Pivot, Giant, and Yeti.

I like all the pictures of the bikes and the trucks -

I am in the hunt for a new truck. Formerly, I had a Chevy Silverado with a shell, and loved that I could just throw all my toys (skis, surfboard, bikes) in the back.

Do you think it would be possible to fit a mountain bike (Santa Cruz 5010) in the back of a DCSB with a cab high shell on it? I realize it would likely required removing the front wheel and I am Ok with laying it on it's side.

    Thanks in advance.

Ummmm I barely fit my Trek Xcaliber 8 with 29" wheels in mine, I had to lay it down and leave the shell rear window up and then it still barely fit, Had to kinda squeeze it in there.

I will have to get back to you on if it will fit under a shell standing up using like a fork mount screwed into the bed though... I have not tried that yet.

If you get a 6' bed and take the front wheel off you should be goodl. That said if you have a XL frame it might not fit, would probably be close.

And now rereading your post you were asking about the short box, sorry to say it's not going to fit unless you take both wheels off if you want to stand it upright.

@jmstub We carry two 120 mm travel 29-ers in the back of our DCSB with cab high shell, front wheels removed and Kuat DirtBag fork mounts attached to a piece of 1/2" plywood that spans the width of the bed and about 8" wide. It's a bit of a hassle but for longer trips it's really nice to have the bikes secure and out of the weather. I've tried a few options, both bikes with forks to the rear didn't work, as the slope of the rear window plus liftgate hinges was just too tight for my large Tallboy and wife's medium Ripley. So then I tried only the smaller bike facing back, with the fork mount for the larger bike up by the front bed wall. Worked OK, but still a little hassle working the bars past the rear opening. Current setup is with both fork mounts up front angled slightly to offset the handlebars. It's a bit of a pain crawling in to secure the bikes but once they're in, it's good, plus there's more room for extra cargo between the rear wheels. We put the front wheels leaning against the sides of the bed/shell a little forward of the center of the wheel wells, then push the bikes over so the rear wheels are tight against the rear bed sides and secure them with flexible NiteIze ties. Thousands of miles on highway, and hundreds of dirt road miles and its held up well. Here's a pic of the initial configuration; as you can see the bars on the orange bike are really squeezed in, so for our current configuration, imagine both bikes installed with rear wheels near the tailgate. FYI my shell is an ARE Z Series; I'm not crazy about it for a few reasons, one is the size of the hinges which really protrude into the opening. A shell with simpler hinges, a more vertical rear window and windoors would be perfect. Oh, one other thing, we do lower the dropper seatposts. Also, since you're now removing and replacing the thru-axle every time, do be careful to keep it clean and greased, and also make sure the front brake lever doesn't get squeezed! In summary, I think a 5010 would work fine in almost any cab-high shell, but 140+ mm travel esp with 29" forks which I assume are also a bit longer, may start getting tight.

my buddies have been bugging me to get a mountain bike for a few years now (I've only ridden road bikes) and I finally pulled the trigger on this beauty! Words can't even explain how pumped I am to hit the trails this weekend. IMG_1972.jpg
