2500 normally. 3000-3500 in heavy traffic.

I will start in second only if I'm rolling out of a driveway or something. Otherwise it takes too long.

Depends on where you're driving. No matter what RPM you shift at, you'll have terrible mileage during acceleration.

Now when you're cruising, that's a different story. Keep your RPM between 1500 and 1800 for best MPG. That means driving in 4th at 30mph, 5th between 35 and 45, and 6th any higher. Don't feel as if you have to run through all the gears either. I jump from 4th to 6th a lot. Downshift if you have to accelerate or climb a hill.

On the highway, anything above 70 will give you terrible mileage. I don't have a choice... speed limit here is 75 and if you don't do 75 people will run you over. You can make it up in town however. Even with my normal 30 mile commute with a 10 mile stint at 75, I can still achieve between 19 and 22mpg per trip.

PS the slightest headwind (over 5mpg) will kill your mileage too.

Normaly I would agree, but have found the truck likes some more RPMS. Do you use you instant gas meter? Play the game and see what your rig likes.

I just look at the center monitor the truck shows, I'm not very tech savvy with it yet I'm trying to learn how to find my averages in my menu

The truck DOES like to perform at higher RPM, but my best mileage is at low RPM...

That being said, you can only coast at low RPM. If you want to accelerate, climb a grade, tow anything, etc, hitting the gas while spinning at 1500 causes the truck to feel like it's missing. In town I'll shift at 2500 RPM and 3000RPM on the highway. Once I hit cruising speed, I lower my RPM substantially... thats how the autos are set up to drive after all and their mileage is outstanding...

For best performance (not mileage) don't let the truck drop below 2000 RPM. At about 3100 you'll feel it push you back in the seat. Use that or higher if you really need to get moving.

There is a meter that is a bar going up and down showing your instant mpgs.
