Find a mid 90's Accord with under 100k from a person who has taken great care of it, learn how to maintain it well, invest the other 1/2 of your money, and thank me in 4 years when gas is back to $4 a gallon.

And you when you realize that everyone in your age group with a truck is asked to move every person they know, and friends of friends, from one apartment to another. For pizza.......... you'll wish you'd skipped the truck.

Or you can patiently shop for a 4 cyl 5 spd regular cab Tacoma, same year range, double the miles, twice the price and 1/2 the MPG.

But I would suggest you call your insurance agent and ask for approximate quotes on a few different options. You may be stunned at what that bill is going to run....... and how much it might vary from vehicle to vehicle.

Where the hell were you when I turned 16? really great advice. I dumped every dollar I earned working from age 14-19 into an 83 ford bronco. really wish I would have had a responsible adult to tell me this.

Read through here. Along with other obvious things to check, get under the truck and check for frame rust. 10k will get you a really nice 4wd V6 TRD Extra Cab under 150,000 miles if you look long enough.

If you like to take your friends with you, I'd suggest looking into 4runners in the same year. They're pretty much the same except the 4runners are more refined and can be found for a lot less cash.

No way, buy a tacoma! Some 16 year olds need a truck to camp, get a dirt bike, get around in the snow, girls like a truck, etc. Forget the cheap Honda. Spend 6-8k on a Tacoma and learn how to work on it. They are real easy to work on and there is a plethera of how-to videos online.

16 year olds don't listen to old guys. If they were they wouldn't be 16. Look for the old retired mechanic / engineer with the bone stock truck. That said, I'm getting old so you may not listen to me either. :D

be patient in your search and don't fall in love with the first Tacoma you look at, there are a lot of them out there for sale but finding the right one might take some time.
