Didn't think of that. I'm asking because parts should be different in both rear ends, meaning its a design... is flaw the right word?

Maybe the new material rings like a bell?

Like resonance. Think Tacoma narrows bridge.

NORMALLY the pinion would be the culprit to these types problems but again speculation.

Definitely something going on back there, I did speak to the Salesman about the different issues when I was ordering mine. He was upfront and said they had one he sold back in Service and were swapping a new rear into it.

But people are on their third diff with the same problem? So really it's pointless to change it out if it's the material causing the problem, right? Until they fix that?

Although are there other vehicles that get the same or similar problems from Toyota? I would doubt that they would source different material for the Tacoma then say the hilux or 4Runner. Same rear end.

I mean if they sourced it out to ASIN. They would just pump a million out and sell them to Toyota.

It seems to be a hit or miss issue so maybe they are hoping when the swap it out it will be one that does not have the issue.

Toyota fixes on a " vehicle by vehicle " basis.
What that actually means is how pissed off a customer is or how far they are willing to push the issue relates to what repair Toyota is willing to do.
Putting multiple diffs in is cheaper than repurchasing a vehicle.
    Ask me how I know

A guy on the other thread said his 07 did it. I never noticed my 11 do it. But my 17 has a much quieter cab.

Oh well. I'll tell the dealer about it then probably wait til the dang thing locks up before I do something about it

This is my plan. Get it in writing so if they have a recall you'll have proof you have it.

I wonder if the guys that re-geared have any howl? A few people have done it but I haven't heard any of them address that

So just for my edification. Your 4Runner doesn't have it? How many miles?

The 4Runner is dead silent and comfy in my softex leather :D
That being said 4runners used to have an issue with diffs popping along with the rear diffs of the FJs back in the day.
There is a member here that has has both front and rear diffs go out on his sr5 Runner.

Anything is possible. I got 4500 miles right now

My sport didn't do it, my OR does. It doesn't really bother me. I listen to the whistle of a turbo all day. Gear howl is not an issue I don't think. If it blows apart warranty will fix it.

I hear ya, I never drive 60. Either 75 or 45, depending on where I'm at in the commute.

So maybe something to do with the locker? I have the OR and it does it.

I agree it's not too annoying and I plan on keeping the truck for a long time.

But what about trying to sell it? Guy test driving it will hear it so (like the dealer) can you tell them it's no big deal? I honestly don't think it is but now your trying to sell that to someone else on top of selling the truck.

That's my concern. There has to be a fix.
