Just bought an 03 double cab, 140k miles. When driving the e brake handle will slide forward turning on the brake light on the dash. Looked up under the pedals to see it anything was loose but can't seem to see what's causing it.
Anybody else have this issue or know a way to fix it? It's just annoying having to push it back in every 5 minutes while driving to get the light to turn off.

    Thanks!

Had a similar issue with my 2002 with over 200,000 miles. I wire tied it closed. Not saying that was the correct fix but the light went off.

You'll need to adjust the cable underneath at a pivot point under the drivers door. Pretty simple, two wrenches to tighten the cable enough to just take up the slack.

Are you talking about on the bellcrank itself? What exactly should I tighten?

I have a similar problem but not as serious. When starting off, the light stays on once the brake is off, and after driving for a hundred feet or so I can push the handle a bit and itll go off and stay off. No big deal, just mildly annoying

The sun isn't up when I get home so hopefully I can do this via flashlight fairly easily. I'll give it a shot and report back.

Dunno if it's one adjustment, like you linked, for actual brake tension and handle slop. Drove a different vehicle to work tonight so can't go mess with it.

    Check...

    IMG_20170318_065604.jpg

It was the cable under the cab under driver seat. Loosened the nut on the rear side about 1 turn and tightened the front one back down. No slope in the handle anymore. haven't driven yet but the handle is tighter. Now to finish drink.:D one of the perks of night shift... Morning drinking before the sun rises

    Pretty much stock right now
I had the similar symptoms with the handle. Tried greasing and adjusting the cable, but these only provided temporary relief. The problem may be corrosion inside the cable cover preventing the cable from moving easily. If that's the case, replace the cable. It's not expensive and it's not hard to do, and should fix the problem for the next ten years.

When the handle moves enough that the light comes on.

I have found it is time to lube the spring the keeps tension on the cable.

This spring is at the Intermediate lever and when it gets dry it does not keep that slight pressure on the cable.

Not sure of the newer trucks but my 2000 is like this

So where exactly is that? I'll try it tomorrow and see if it works on newer models

Possibly the spring in the pic I took above? under the truck under the driver seat. May have to hit mine with some lube as it is pretty dry and rough to the touch which I'm sure impedes function.... <<<WTF did I just type?!?

I would have to look to tell you just where it is but it is attached to the intermediate lever that is where the front and rear cables join in front of the fuel tank .

It keeps a slight amount of tension on the cable to the rear keeps the handle pulled against the switch.

Now this not to say your front cable is not about to break and is fraying in the handle

In my case, (same symptoms) the front section of the cable is stretched out and needs replacement. I believe that section is available on rock auto. Replacement is the only solution in my case as there is no adjustment left.
