What have you done to your Tacoma today? 1st Gen Edition

I know you are doing it for ride height but it'll be interesting to see the impact on ride quality. It's 9.25" 5125s in the rear correct?

 

11" 5125s. For the first time ever I lost uptravel height because of one yesterday. Sat the truck right on it fully compressed. I have the rebuild kits for my FOAs now so I'll be making a crossmember for those really soon. Had another 3" of uptravel before the leafs were dangerously frowning. Progress is finally happening here and I'm pleased with it. I was doing everything super slow when testing yesterday so the 5125 is still fine. I think it will ride smoother without the 3rd leaf in the pack

Yeah they don't have to be like that anymore, my lift has settled a lot and it isn't at the end of its travel anymore.

I'm looking into buying a parts truck for a potential part out. It was a '98-'00 Extended Cab that was fully loaded. It had the 3.4l V6, 4x4, TRD Package, Rear Locking Differential, ABS, Complete Power Doors (which were rare), and comes with a camper shell. I asked him some background on it, and it was abandoned in his dad's towing yard. Someone tried to repaint it hence the white primer. It's missing the v6 engine, the transmission, and the transfer case (since the dad took it out). Otherwise most of the body and interior is there. The guy is asking $650. I want to potentially swap and put in the real locking diff. into my truck, using the camper shell, flares, and some interior parts and parting out everything else.

Is this a good deal? Any advice?

 

The interior (steering wheel, door panels), narrow fender flare size, and locking gas cap makes me think it's a 98-00. (since the interior changed dramatically in '01, the flares were widened, and the locking gas door removed) TRD was also introduced in '98. Maybe the hood was swapped... hmm. My best bet is thing got into a front end collision and the front was damaged. Someone tried to repair it hence the 01-04 hood and primered body.

 

What does the door jam sticker say?

 

Not sure. Im only going off what the owner is texting me. I'm going out to inspect the truck this Sunday. Before I make any decisions I want to make sure I can make my money back parting out what's left of it, and selling the frame to a junkyard. I know the body by itself is worth at least 100-200 in scrap.

 

It looks like the only value left is the sheet metal, shell, glass, axles, 1 or 2 interior items.

It's probably worth 500-600, just because its Toyota parts.

Well darn looks like I can't buy the parts truck. My stupid HOA doesn't allow "inoperable vehicles" to be parked in your driveway. Just talked to my landlord.

I actually got fined for having a basketball hoop in my driveway once. I had to get rid of it or be charged 40 a week until I do.

If anyone needs a crazy good deal on a parts truck (without the engine & drivetrain) it's listed under the SF Bay Area Craigslist.

I'd certainly verify, by looking 'up the skirt', that it actually has an e-locker axle.
That TRD logo looks funky.

Ask yourself, do i have the time and patience to scrap savage all that and deal with low bollers , have all that time to try to get your 600 back?.. I dont, IMHO
