You know deer/elk season isn't for quite some time, right? Weatherby Vanguard and a used Leupold gold ring scope will last you a lifetime and can be had for under $1000 with so much time to shop. Any good quality rifle (like a Sako) will be a lifetime rifle. Let someone else pay the sticker price.

If you're looking to hunt in the woods I've got a pump Remington 7600 Carbine (.30-06) with an older Leupold Vari-X2 2-7x scope. Excellent woods gun. I've dropped deer and elk both with it at well over 400 yards (though it's not very confidence inspiring with the short barrel and relatively low power scope).

I made the mistake of buying an expensive hunting rifle and scope a few years ago. If I wanted to sell it (which I never will) I doubt I could get half of the $3000+ it cost me new.

That said, @GSPRunner may want a bed rack.

I appreciate all that. I've got plenty of guns. Most of my hunting gear is hand me down stuff from my dad (which I love) to get me started hunting, in case I decide I don't like it. Now that I'm hooked, I'm trying to get all new gear so I'm super set up when I do a 3 week elk and whitetail hunt in the middle of nowhere Idaho. As far as the bed rack goes, @GSPRunner it should be arriving soon.

    http://www.thecoolerzone.com/rtic-vs-yeti-cooler-ultimate-guide/

Hello guys, I saw someone earlier mention Yeti coolers; ever since they came out I was always fascinated with them, but they are quite expensive. There is a similar company that charges way less called RTIC, I HAVE NOT USED THEIR PRODUCTS, but they seem to hold up just as well as yeti and are quite cheaper. Maybe this will help someone?

There are a couple threads out ther of reviews. I think most of them lean in the rtic side. Yeti is just overprice cooler at this point.

RTIC reached a settlement on the lawsuit from Yeti, and RTIC is to stop making knock-offs. What that means for RTIC moving forward in terms of their product line, I don't know, but it will have to change a few things for sure.

I've actually been looking at the Pelican Elite version, as I like their latches better. But even being able to pay "wholesale" through one of my firearms distributors, the Pelicans are still expensive. Especially since I only use a cooler 1-2 times a year where long term ice retention is necessary, the cost doesn't really seem justifiable.
