So im just about to buy new tires. I have some toyo AT atm and have been using them for over 6 years. Ive tried the KO and Gapplers not for me. Should i go back to the AT or swap over to a MT. Anyone done this and is there any difference between them besides AT MT. Also i have been looking at the RT but have never heard anything about them. One more option is the Cooper. Just not sure .... any input would help smart ass comments and links also welcome

How much do you really drive offroad?

A P-rated AT is fine for the vast majority of people on this board.

Many folks "want" a LT MT tire, and that's fine, but be realistic with your driving.

Where do you use them and how much. A MT may look cool and beefy, but if you commute highways A lot might want to pass.

It's all based on intended use....

It may also depend on the type of offroading you do once a month. If it's fire breaks and trails then a less aggressive tire would work. But, if you're slogging through mud, sand and such once a month, you'll want an aggressive tire or you'll find yourself getting stuck often.

I've been running Duratracs for about 4 years now and they have been a pretty good balance between on and off road. Aggressive enough to get through most crap and not too loud on pavement. Really good tread life too.

SocalOC, i'm in the same boat, needing new tires. I have Michilin LTX MS2 on now and they are great tires on road and haven't had any issues on fire roads (snow and rain traction has been great too). My only complaint is that they are all cracked on the tread base (I have only 40,000 miles on the tires and the cracks on the tread base look as if they will cause tread separation).
Now in need of tires, I am considering the Kumho AT51s, Cooper AT3, Toyo AT2, and the BFG ko2 (love the looks, but don't need the E rated). I had 285 70 17 Toyo AT2 on a 2011 GMC Yukon XL and they were great except in sand beach driving (might be because of the Yukon xl being so heavy - yes, aired down to 15psi). I can get the Ko2 installed for $830 at sears. The coopers and kumhos are about $300 cheaper. I'm going to price the toyos AT2 next week. I'll be going to 265 75 16 instead of the stock 265 70 16.
