Just curious, do you really think buying a first year redesign Ranger is a good idea? Isn't there a high probability of it having very similar issues to your first year redesign Taco? I would think you may be better off getting a 2018 Taco or one of the GM twins that have had a few years to get the bugs out.

Just a thought... there is some old saying of "doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results is..."

Lightning never strikes twice does it? I'd probably wait a year or so to see how it does in review. Toyota doesn't change their trucks much at from year to year. Zero confidence 2018 will be much different

Bummer about your truck. I'd be pretty ticked if I had those problems too.

If lighting never strikes twice, then wouldn't your next taco be as good as the rest?

I'd be a bit sour after your experience as well. On the other hand, my 2017 DCLB TRDOR (built Jan. 2017 in Baja) has been great for its first 3000 miles. Not a true test by any means, but so far so good.

I do think Toyota and their manufacturing teams will correct many issues as they build more trucks. However, I do think there are some problem components that will need redesign to get better yield of "good" units. That doesn't mean the current design has 0% good parts, not all tranny's are underfilled, not all rear diff's are POFS's, etc... there are good 3rd gen Tacomas out there.

Too many reported issues on this new generation. I meant between manufacturers.

I don't know how saving 5k is worth all the trouble your truck is giving you. My sanity is worth more than 5k.

    Actually....

I worked with a dude who wouldn't heed to the obvious and suffered three different events. Luckily for him none were a direct hit...he only aided in grounding the tall, metal objects we were working on.

Well, there's the problem. If they weren't attached, you wouldn't be in this pickle.

Its not really a redesign, the underpinnings have been used for years, they are just going to hang different body panels on it.

Aren't they putting a new engine and transmission in it? Maybe not new but new to the Ranger. That is where the trick is, repackaging and all that fun. Isn't that similar to the 3rd Gen Tacoma? The 3.5 isn't a new engine to Toyota, buts its new to the Tacoma.

Not trying to be a fanboy here, but I'm a R&D engineer in aerospace, I've set up several production lines, and been called in to troubleshoot issues as production ramps. Toyota sets the bar for process control and process improvement. Most volume manufacturers model after the Toyota system. Never hear much about Ford's processes, not that they aren't capable, it just Toyota has proven to be the standard that others are measured against. If Toyota screwed up this bad on the 3rd Gen, can't wait to see how bad Ford does on the Ranger.

    Just my opinion.

Ford won't drop the ball, they will capitalize "bigly" on Toyota's mistakes, and take the mid size truck market to a new level, just like withthe F150 full size truck market. Watch and learn is exactly what they have been doing.

Previous Rangers were awesome. Mine (2003 XLT extra cab 4x4) was flawless.

Comrade Bortis touches on an interesting point. TM & HMC used to be known for having very little issue with first MY product. Sad to see this isn't across the brand now. Tho in the Lexus product the RX & NX are recent heavy revisions (tho/and based on other exiting units) without issue in first year of production.

Sad to hear about all the Tacoma issues your having. I feel ya I bought a 16 Silverado Z71 CCSB that was a sweet truck except it was so big. I had it 5 months and lemon law'd it . Everything was wrong with it! Electrical was topping the list and they could not figure out why. Now I have a 4R for the time being but really wanting a Tacoma PRO....

Crazy my 2011 Sierra Denali had no issues for 3+ years and over 36k miles... it just was too nice to hunt with. If I was going back to Full size GM would be my #1 choice.

I was raised in a Ford house, dad was a die hard Ford guy. I had a 1994 Ranger and a 2002 Ranger FX4 Level 2. Along with a 2000 F-150 in between. Rangers ran well, but I've never been happier than when I sold the 2002 Ranger for a 2004 Tacoma DCSB TRDOR. That truck was perfection for 270,000 miles. The F-150 I had was a great truck as well, unfortunately met its end at 3 am between Rock Springs and Jackson Hole WY thanks to a large elk at 60 mph...

Not saying Ford makes bad trucks. I'm just saying they will likely have their share of teething issues bringing the Ranger online. I'd wait a year or 2.
