thread should be closed. there is really nothing that will improve these 2.7 mpg. just make good driving habits and maintain it with good fluids, tune ups, etc.

I'm averaging about 15-16 MPG in my 2017 DCLB and thats with me driving like a granny. Is that normal? I don't care that much about mileage (hence why I bought a truck), but TBH I was expecting to get closer to 19. Wondering if its just because its in the break-in period...

How fast do you drive, how far do you drive? Don't expect much from break-in, and don't expect any bolt on mods to help. Slower driving with few stops helps.

This may have been answered but I'm having trouble finding it in searches....

Will removing the Air Dam in the Gen. 3s DECREASE or INCREASE fuel economy??
I see that a lot of people do not like the esthetics of it and are removing it. Are there any drawbacks to this?

So do I. These trucks have cold air intake from the factory. At least my 2004 does.
I've been reading ALL of this forum for a very long time. From what I have learned the only thing that might improve performance (torque) and gas mileage on a 2.7 is an LCE header along with a proper muffler and deathanol free gas.

The stock exhaust system is just about perfect from the factory. So is the air intake. I'd rather have slightly less HP (if the aftermarket air intakes even afford it) than shit getting into my engine and "sand papering" my cylinder walls.

I'd suggest the deathanol free gas for starters before anything else because that alone has raised my fuel mileage. It's just better for the engine all the way around. The 2.7's in the first gens were just about perfect right from the factory for what they were designed to do.

With the exception of the LCE header which is renowned for increasing torque and the proper muffler there is nothing else anyone can do for the 2.7 unless they turbo or supercharge it. The newer 2.7's I have no idea about. Thank the EPA for that.

My question is? Why would anyone buy a 2.7 and then complain about the power? The 2.7 is renowned for being gutless as well as an exceptional work vehicle with a very long life span. But no one that buy's one expects high performance if they are actually using it as a working vehicle and they certainly must not expect to get from point "A" to point "B" in a hurry. I would think. Especially when loaded down.

As a matter of fact? Even if anyone buy's a 2.7 for any reason, even as a DD. Why would you expect any serious performance at all with EPA regulations the way they are at this point in time with a 4 cylinder in a truck?

Anyone having problems with their new Taco should send their complaints to the EPA. NOT Toyota.

What's wrong with the EPA? I like breathing clean air. Sucks I can't pour out chemicals in the rocks anymore like grandpa, though...

    What's wrong with the EPA?

Everything. They have done nothing for clean air. I could spend hours and many pages explaining the scam of the EPA. Along with every other government agency that "claims" to be saving us from "something". Technology and the private sector has advanced in providing us with the cleanest environment on the planet. No EPA necessary.

Since the U.S. supports the rest of the world and has the strictest environmental regulations we are doing quite well as far as "saving" the environment" while we send "welfare checks" to numerous countries around the globe that have absolutely "ZERO" environmental regulations who send their pollution over here through the wind and ocean currents globally. Then there's the slave labor in those countries to take a look at.

European countries just "might" be ahead of us when it comes to environmental regulations but that is why they are all in debt and bankrupt. Except for Germany.

Environmental regulations are just "one" of the reasons the United States is bankrupt, in debt for over $20 trillion and has no money or real wealth while poverty and those in tent cities on welfare grow in numbers all over America.

When our government screwed us and off-shored our economy around the world we lost and globalism won. Keep in mind that what other countries, like China, spew into the air or dump in the oceans ends up in every other country around the world due to wind and ocean currents yet the U.S. loses with lost jobs and poverty nation wide.

Fukushima radiation is still spreading across the northern part of America and has been washing up on the west coast for years now. No one reports on it though. Buy ethanol free if you can. It's FAR better for the environment and you'll get better gas mileage. Emissions garbage on diesel's is ruining the environment as well since it has cost the average diesel engine a 3 or 4 MPG loss. Not to mention those that are killed when a semi burns to the ground thanks to the new "low sulfur diesel" and the regeneration process to "save the environment" in addition to what is sent into the air from a burning tractor trailer loaded with Haz-Mat when it burns to the ground.

The "clean air" bumper sticker mentality just doesn't compute in the real world. Sorry.

I did exaggerate a little. I hate the EPA that much. Everything they have done over the past 8 years has nothing to do with clean air or the environment and we could go back a lot further than that on other things they have done.

Not really. The EPA has been causing problems for decades but in the last 8 years it reached it's pinnacle. It wasn't until the last eight years we saw private land owners fined $140,000 a day because they built a pond on their own land. That's just one example. Food was a weapon under Stalin and the EPA has been used as a weapon for not only the last 8 years but for about 30 years before that. It's just gotten worse. It's gotten so bad that our economy has been pretty much sabotaged because of it. Then there are people who died because the diesel powered ambulance broke down (because of emissions garbage) on the way to the hospital. That's why they have an emissions free option for Ford ambulance packages now. I could go on and on but that' really not what this forum is for.

    No, I'm not.
Diesel engines get worse mileage than ever because of emissions crap. When ethanol is burned it releases a very toxic gas into the atmosphere. So does diesel exhaust fluid. The manufacture of ethanol is about the worst thing for the environment and has caused many in third world countries to starve because corn was the main staple food in their diets. Not to mention the fact that growing corn for ethanol allows the farmer to use toxic fertilizers and pesticides that aren't allowed for food production. Guess where that stuff ends up? In the water table. Mercury bulbs also put off a very toxic gas not to mention they are loaded with mercury. MTBE was pure poison yet they used it until everyone found out about it. The EPA was a good idea when it was started. We needed it. Now it's just another huge over funded bureaucracy that needs to be reigned in. It now commits crimes against the American people nation wide. Under the guise of "saving the planet".

This made me lol. So true. I love my 2TR-FE but it does require the full range of the accelerator pedal.
