A SR5 with the utility package option would've been perfect for me. But Toyota says No so I had to go with the SR.

Me personally going from a loaded BMW, I still wanted the comfort features (heated seats, JBL, sun roof, Dual climate, push start, auto locks), as well as the MTS, Crawl control, rear locker, Bilstein shocks and other stuff that the TRD OR provided......

My 2017 SR5 is about 3ish months old now. Manual seats, automatic lights, locks, radio etc. I love it. It's a crew cab with a short bed. Only downside doesn't fit my fishing poles diagonally like my 2012 single cab did.

You mean, auto-off headlights. Automatic usually means they turn on when it gets dark enough to need them and off when it's too bright for them. Also all tacomas have manual seats.

Have you looked into the Porta-Rod, rod holder system for truck beds? Saw it a while ago and think I may pick one up for my rig to carry my rods, and then maybe a flag for those extra patriotic days...

I've looked into a few rod set ups. But I travel (Tx to Venice La to fish) or the Tx coast with Inshore and offshore rods. I'm putting them in a big PVC tube with caps to keep them safe.

I've got a '16 4x4 SR5 DCSB (with the typical wheels and suspension upgrades) and it will easily serve all your needs. I don't need/care about all the techy gadgets and so forth on the "higher end" models. It's a 4x4 truck and I use it as such. Gets me to work in comfort and is plenty capable on the trails.

Sure there are serious/extreme 4x4 guys that can do way more then me. However if I wanted one of those I'd buy something, way cheaper, with a shorter wheel base and build it.

    Yes, I cannot agree more.

I have the same model as you but a 2014, and with only 45,000 km's which is nothing for that year ( IMHO).... that being said, I ain't a trail riding enthusiast although I may dabble from time to time but I share the same 'simple' things in life as you do and this truck more than checks off those boxes for me aswell as the pride factor for wanting one the last 10 years and finally pulling the trigger on a deal.

I wanted the nav and a few other options so once I started adding this and that.... TRD off road.

Hey it's your wallet. Don't let anyone else tell you how to spend what's in it. Trust me if I could get what I wanted and save thousands by going to a lower trim I would have. The other thing is people try to sell you on resale by buying certain options. Personally I am buying a truck for me and not the next owner. But if you flip your vehicles every 20 minutes after seeing a shiny penny or a butterfly then I get why you care about resale and what options to have for the next guy.

Over the years I have owned SR5s good truck, no complaints however, I just sold my 05 SR5 and purchased a new TRD OFF, but I almost bought a used 2016 SR5 but they were asking 33k$ with 10k miles; for 30K$ I would have bought it, but got a new TRD OFF DBL CAB Long bed for 38,400. But to me there is nothing wrong with SR5 for normal truck use.

Thanks man. 3''/2'' lift,265/75R16s on AR923 wheels. The 2.7 took a little bit to get use to, but I like it.
