The Toyota lean system is great and all for streamlining production, but it has little to do with having a quality product engineered in the first place.

And as more and more components get outsourced it becomes harder and harder to make sure your suppliers are "experts and believers" in the Toyota system as well.

Agree, just ask Boeing what they learned on the first 5 years of 787 production. Now they are slowly reeling it all back in house to make sure they are all "experts and believers"...

I have been involved in using the same Kaizen that Toyota uses and l can tell you from the inside it sucks. It is great buzzword in saying Continuous or Constant Improvement to the outside world as how could you argue about improvement... On the inside that improvement means moving it faster down the assembly line to reduce cycle times and or reduce the amount of parts. As soon as they have a process worked out they do another action workout to repeat again and again.

Boeing guys visited us to basically follow the same Kaizen shit we were doing years back, hopefully they did learn from that and get quality control back

Side bar... yeah, Boeing appears to be moving work to Charleston, and other non-union locations. They've got a nice new 800,000+ sqft factory here in SLC, UT only half full that they are slowly moving work into out of WA and other areas. It's not helping that Airbus keeps forcing Boeing to make the first move, then reacts and steals more market share while Boeing chews through technical issues. Boeing usually pushes the technology further, then Airbus comes in behind with a slightly less risk, lower cost (or more subsidized) approach.

Yep, i'm an engineer that is required to use it as well. I know it has been proven to work, but it really is time consuming and you really have to have a lot of people believing in it and motivated to do it correctly to make it work at its best. Unfortunately a lot of us are having the experience of it being more of a distraction to our daily work than anything else.

Maybe we should totally hijack this thread. Tell me what you think about "Six Sigma Black Belt"...

Wait wait what about those of us on the operator end of your products? Can I be in on the HIJACKING (finally I get to say it)?

And speaking of 6 sigma, QDM, quats, Kaszen events & the Toyota way, can we talk about the new 767s rolling off the line? :)

Sadly there will not be a Splash version, at least not in the first two years of release. So far there has not been any legit evidence of what motors will be available.

I bet they'll roll a few new model trims out over the first three years of the model year. They may have some type of mini raptor / ZR2 equivalent, then also some type of Platinum for the "limited" variant

There is too much guessing right now to be certain. A limited or Platinum would be wise.
