I'm sure in the first year there will be a smitty99 edition Ford Ranger.

It'll come with lackluster performance, transmission slippage and hard shifting, decal for an instrument cluster, and a air operated kazoo that increases in volume when the vehicle speeds up.

One thing I noticed is they replaced the instrument gauge/panel "glass" with the fix. First time I dust it with a feather it will scratch again I'm sure but for now it's scratchless!

Mine isn't broken. And hopefully it runs forever now that I'm scared.

    Compressed air?

I'm pissed that they are keeping the Ranger mostly like the international version with just a few different body panels. I was really really hoping it would look more like a mini F-150 or like the old Rangers. Instead it is probably going to look a whole lot more like an updated Explorer Sport Trac, but they are using the Ranger name because of sales.

Also one source confirmed no manual transmission 4x4, if they go with a manual trans it will only be 4x2.

They are dead to me if all of this turns out to be true.

My last truck was a Frontier. But I didn't post on a Tacoma forum. Do you have second truck or something?

New Ford Rangers are already in production, just not in the US. Assuming the US version is the same, I would imagine, or at least hope, most of the bugs would be worked out.

Where are they built? Is Ford going to need a new line to meet North American demand? If so, I foresee growing pains just like any new introduction with a reconfigured line.

Unless they can somehow claim it to be a passenger vehicle and not a truck they will have to build it in the states for tax purposes. Although ford has gotten around this before.

I have had a lot of time in a ranger when I worked years back and we had 2 of them and they were a piece of crap. I personally owned a bronco 2 years ago which wasn't no more than a ranger with a cab. It gave me problems would heat up everytime it was in the mud and had to pull. The new ranger might be a good truck but don't hang your hat on that yet.

    Agree
First year of a new model is how manufacturers learn what to fix for the successive years, goes for many manufacturers

Its getting to the point where new vehicle releases should be as a beta version for testing in the real world.

Replaced my '06 Tacoma SR5 with a '10 Frontier Pro-4x. Interested in the 3rd Gen Tacoma but will probably buy a 5th gen 4runner instead.

Did you like the Pro-4x. I considered those before I got the Tacoma. But I knew this might be my one shot to get a taco.

Yeah, it's been great. I feel like a lot of attention to detail went into the design. Just regular maintenance and a set of tires so far. I really like the 4.0L v6 and 6spd, lots of power and the ratios are perfect.
