having 5100's and 887's installed this week and it never even dawned on me whether I should've ordered new tophats. Guessing I just use the ones on the factory strut?

I reused factory ones since it's a '15 and only had 15k miles on it when putting on 5100s and 885s. The only reason to replace them would be if they're worn out, and they'd just be replaced with factory ones anyways.

Exactly. I think I only had about 5 or 6k when I lifted. No need to replace.

Ok, good. Mine only has 4000 miles on it so I should be golden.

Nope. My mechanic is doing the install and mounting my new wrangler duratracs on my new wheels. I don't have close to the correct tools to do it.

Just out of curiosity has anyone run an 887 on the second notch on a 5100? There's a guy on a Facebook Tacoma page who said that's how he's running his. I asked how it rides and if there's any issues but he never answered back. Said he got a solid 3"

Not like you asked for it, but I'll put in my .02  To be honest, I'd never run 5100s with OME coils on anything other than the bottom notch. You're preloading the coil and you'll get a rougher ride. If you want a higher ride height, just get 888 coils. They're the same spring rate, but just 5mm taller, which translates to roughly 1/2" of lift.

No, I'm good on the bottom setting. Hoping to get 2.5" a little more would be ok. I just wasn't sure if others had done that as it's the first I've heard of it. I know people run stock coils way up there though.

I got a solid 3" with my 887s on bottom setting. I personally wouldn't recommend anything other than 0 setting, but that's just me. Compromising down travel and ride quality.

I agree. I can imagine it has to be a rough ride

I would like to know the process you were going to recommend. Getting ready to do my 887 install.

First follow this thread and remove your swaybar.
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/how-to-remove-sway-bar-2012.365947/

Then I followed these videos for the rest of the install. Since my tophats were in great shape, I didn't even bother removing them from the truck. Didn't touch them at all!

If you do this process, it'll go really smooth as long as you have a proper floor jack and a second set of hands to guide the shock back into the hole.
