New Tacoma!!!...(soon)

Hey everyone, im supposed to be getting a new Tacoma in the next month of so and was wondering about your opinions on the one I have chosen out. Mind you that I will be taking this to college with me so im not going to be able to go offroading a lot, but would like to be able to do some. Do you think the 4x2 version would work for what im asking of it? I dont think I need to take on the extra weight/adverse gas mileage for something I might use twice a year. Im thinking about getting a Timberland Mica Double Cab Short Bed PreRunner with the TRD Sport package. Dont think I would lift it much more than PreRunners get lifted, but definetly would add an aftermarket grill guard and possibly a moonroof. What color/accessories would you reccomend?

 

I've got an '01 PreRunner DC TRD Off Road - if you have the TRD OR option, I'd go with it. Gives you the locker, instead of the limited slip.

Otherwise, I can't offer much advice.

 

eh get a 4x4 youll get the offroad fever. i regret getting a 4x2

 

Yup, if 4x4 is at all an option, go with it over the PreRunner.

Depends what you can afford. 4x2 vs 4x4. Looks like quite a few people opt for the 4x4 due to its versatility. Might not use it as much but its always nice to have. If you do get the sport, I'd say go for the long box.

 

Well if you are going to go with a prerunner, get the Off Road. It is a very very capable truck off road. Some guys on here push their Prerunners harder than a lot of the 4x4's. If you really want the sport get Either TRD Sport 4x4 if you really want a prerunner get the TRD Off Road Prerunner

 

when i bought mine i had no desire to offroad, so i got a trd sport prerunner, then i joined this site, and now im kicking myself in the teeth for not buying 4x4, i have gotten stuck soooo many time.

3) 4x2 PreRunner TRD Off Road

X2 but I had the top two switched, but wish I would have gotten the Off Road and then just bought the Sport hood, thats why I got the sport

 

I'm more than happy with my 4x2 TRD Offroad, I used the locker one time and that instance would be the hardest I have push it.

If your not an avid offroader planning to go on the harder runs then a TRD Offroad is more than adequate.

 

If you're going to college and won't be offroading that much then get you a TRD sport -your color choice is good- it has a better/easier ride and you're probably going to want to use on dates right? Regular TRD has stiff ride. The outdoor-type, bad weather areas and off road demands the 4x4 -get something that doesn't show dirt so much so you won't be washing up all the time.

 

well i will be going to college in either Colorado or Oregon so I also need an opinion on climbing a steep grade. Even if I dont offroad I know there will be atleast a few trips up into the mountains. You guys think a 4x2 could handle that?

 

If I were you, going to Oregon or Colorado I would get a 4x4 due to the snow, even if its not a TRD package.

Depends, if you live in an area or going to school in a area with snow I would go 4x4. If you dont live in an area with snow and don't plan on playing in the snow, 4x2 might be the way to go. IMHO

 

4x4 trd sport would be my choice.

 

I want to say I have heard of them around $450, but dont quote me, and you never know, might find someone online willing to sell theirs or willing to trade

Get a daily beater for point a-b, get your diploma and then a good job and then splurge on a lifted Tundra 4x4. Just a thought. Otherwise, Tacoma 4x4 TRD. Like others have said, it's a nice option to have.
