Hello there fellow Vegas owner. Looks like you purchased your Tacoma from Findlay in the Valley Auto Mall as did I, white offroad as well.

    Here is my advice.

The people in bagging on the transmission in this thread are likely the same people who do not drive with ECT enabled. ECT mode is NOT for towing as many people will lead you to believe. The ECT button in your Toyota toggles the electronic controlled transmission on and off. This transmission system uses hydraulics to actuate the clutches and bands, which are controlled by electronic solenoid, which simplifies the vehicle’s transmission while providing more advanced control.

With ECT, vehicles offer more elaborate control schemes. Not only does it monitor the vehicle speed and throttle position, the transmission controller can also monitor the engine speed when the brake pedal is pressed but the anti-lock braking system as well.

Using your vehicle’s electronically controlled transmission, your Toyota’s engine is able to shift at higher revs. That being said, a good time to use this function of your engine is when you need to accelerate quickly, such as when merging onto the freeway. Acceleration is noticeably quicker with the Electronic Controlled Transmission on, however it should be noted that it significantly decreases your vehicle’s efficiency. So while you could leave it on and experience the influx of power all of the time, if you’re looking to save at the gas pump, I wouldn’t recommend it.

Bascially, Drive is ECO mode. Enable ECT to get out of ECO mode. Anyone who says it drives like a dog with ECT mode enabled is lying through their teeth.

Good luck and see you around!

    Wrong[/QUOTE]

I'll bite. Explain how that is wrong.

    It's directly from Toyota.

Also, I drive with ECT mode enabled 90% of the time, the truck is nearly identical to my 2017 4runner.

Yes, I also own a 2017 4runner. Can post pics of my 4runner if you like.

But... back on topic, explain yourself rather than just posting "wrong"

I have got to read the manual lol but my GF hasn't set down the keys she even took it to work today. I don't recall seeing an ECT button but I haven't got to play with much other than the Entune so far since we agreed to not offroad without the rock slides i haven't been messing with any buttons other than infotainment

Wrong. Still drove like shit regardless of ECT and the local dealership refused to look at it.

    Been down that road.

It's down near the parking sensor and wireless charging buttons.

Just a heads up, you need to enable ECT each time you get in the truck. There is no way to keep it on.

Okay. How did it still drive like shit? What TSB did you have?

You are making claims that do not match up with my experience, and my experience is comparing it to 2017 4runner.

yeah, the last thing she needs is more power lol. We haven't had any issues with the shifting either. ECT i know now i was like "what the hell is that button, maybe its for the bed power outlet" well now i know haha. no complaints as of now. Also saw a Silver TRD OR at the bank today with Findlay paper plates. We were back and forth white or the dark grey. ultimately i love white for what scratches and such are hidden by it. that and dark grey in summer is hot hot hot...

being fair to her we did trade in her underwater 2013 civic to get out of it and its' insane interest rate and she is making the payment. I did the down payment and this is in our names. The joke has been the money for her ring was in the down payment but this was a bigger commitment than marriage so it's all good.

Nothings bigger than having to spend every waking moment on this earth with another human lol but I understand. Did the civic flood because of flooding here or something else? At least she likes it.

There were 4 major items I went to my dealer with:

    1. The erratic shifting issues were present with ECT engaged or not. Well after the TSB was announced, they were 'unaware' of any TSB, and further stated it was 'operating normally- looking for the most 'optimum gear'. I had to present them with the TSB via Tacoma World to get them to acknowledge it and perform it. It helped for about 2,000 miles then it reverted back to the epileptic monkey on the gear shift. Up, down, up, down.. ECT on, ECT off.. Didn't matter..

    2. The truck would occasionally engage into 4-Lo, and the one time I needed 4-Lo- it refused. That's following the protocol to a 'T'. It seemed to only want to engage in 4-Lo if I held my tongue just right and pointed my ass to France at 1:00p.m. MST. Same issue as this guy in WY- https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...d-today-3rd-gen.400627/page-101#post-12571948

    3. The phenomenal 'wavy-shaky' hood- Obvious the hood support 'glue' separated from the hood. Dealer said- "Normal Characteristic of the Truck"

    4. 15 mpg HIGHWAY at 80mph. Dealer said "Truck not designed for western state speeds"..

After 4 months and 14,000 miles, and a lot of that in country that I NEED a truck to have reliable 4-LO- I got rid of it. Like a lot of other guys.

they gave us a lot more than that but i HATE trading cars in because you have to play the "chase the money" game so if they give you more on the trade where are they screwing you on the vehicle or financing. we got what we both agreed on before we got there was the best case scenario deal. we had planned to buy it 6 months from now but the issue was the value of her trade was going to keep going down especially once the 2018's came out and her car was 5 model years old so it forced us to do something now or keep the civic for at least 3 more years. Also selling one of my other cars a 2002 chevy Blazer LS 4x4. So the Tacoma was a sell 2 to get one scenario
once I sell the blazer we will still have:
2009 Pontiac G8 GT- the garage queen/race car i had to have because it's Stryker Blue - i will die with this car
    2006.5 Scion XB
1970 396/m21 Nova - my forever "project rust bucket"
    and the Taco

Did you confirm that the dealer actually performed the TSB by checking the version number on your truck?

I have over 2k miles on my truck with no issues. Purchased back in February. Have done a ton of off-roading with no issues getting into 4-lo.

Also no issues with my hood, but it seems as though this is a legitimate gripe.

That said, why are you still on these forums if you got rid of your Tacoma? I think it's great you are still here, but, to be honest, it's also kinda weird.
