Why is my Tacoma shaking? My Tacoma shakes while in park and around 75mph on the freeway. I just replaced the spark plugs and carrier bearing. Please give me any and all suggestions. Maybe I'm overlooking something obvious! I went to the dealership the other day and the tech said he wasn't sure why it was doing it. Thankyou! -Ryan

Could be two different shakes. Idle engine related, (or engine/transmission mounts), at speed wheel/tire related.

If you have no CEL codes, it *almost* has to be mechanical (not ECU controlled) related.

I second that! My mounts are bad as well, just have to find the time to change them out.

-So the mounts that secure the transmission wear out and can cause vibration over time? Is there anyway to test this so I can see if that's the cause? My truck is 15 years old so this wouldn't surprise me.
-I thought tires for awhile cause I'm due for new ones but it does it even when parked so that can't be the cause...i will be getting new tires next month tho.
-I thought my drive shaft coukd be causing the issue cause it feels like it's right under your feet/seat but it still does it in park. I had misfires with the spark plugs and you could feel that it was coming from the front/the steering wheel would shake. This doesn't feel like it's from the front of the truck.
-it was throwing a catalytic converter code but that was it...:annoyed:

You could start by replacing the O2 sensors

If that was set to to an O2 sensor (most common cause), that will not cause any shaking. However, it is important to correct by replacing the offending sensor.

If the cat itself has failed, of course it needs to be replaced too. But it generally I've only seen a failed/clogged cat either obstruct higher RPM running or even prevent vehicle starting, like putting a potato in the tailpipe.

I still wager you have two different issues.

And it's very intermittent. One day it'll feel 100% and have so much more power then some days it feels like a snail running down the road.

Ok so we got the p0420 issue but the shaking....

@01 Runner when did you get your kings and ucas? Did you get an alignment? And did the shaking occur before the lift?

look at your rpm when it's shaking, mark it down, low idle can cause a "vibration"

I had shaking before the lift. I just put it on last week but haven't noticed any increase since. And yeh I had the alignment done that day. It's just weird how intermintment it is....:l

When I did the carrier bearing is it possible that I messed with the alignment of the driveshaft? Should I look at getting that balanced? The shakes really aren't bad when in park just at 75mph ishhhhh

Driveshaft doesn't move in park, so I doubt that's the idling issue.

I keep trying to tell you its two different issues, based on your description of conditions they occur under
Its fine not to believe a stranger on the interwebz, and i dont care if you prove me wrong. But at least start the elimination process by examining things that folks have suggested, not just doing more keyboard guesswork.

    Best of luck!

Have you had your tires balanced properly? I got my tires aligned and rotated and from 55-75 it was shaking so much I thought I was going to lose a filling. The shop "road force" balanced my wheels and that fixed it.
