I've been seeing this a lot, but not a lot of info on if the tailgate requires the same. Did they fix this problem?

Mine too. And after reading TW extensively I lock mine. I figured I'll make 'em work for it.

I was wondering if anyone makes the tailgate cables that have the same size eye on each end, so you could use red locktite on each bolt and at least it would make it more of a pita to steal?

Cheap and quick is the radiator hose clamp.

Not foolproof but definitely makes them work for it.

Someone posted not long ago about a tailgate lock from McGard. Was basically a hose clamp.

It, like most modern truck tailgates is designed to be quickly removed and because of this thieves take advantage of that fact. In order to slow down the scum who would steal your tailgate you can add a hose clamp to the right side hinge (the slotted one) or buy one of many locking clamps available. I purchased a locking clamp and keep my tailgate locked just in case.

Every single truck (ford, chevy, nissan, toyota) requires this mod, it's not a tacoma only thing. Locked the tailgate will only slow the thief down, it can still be stolen quite quickly if locked.
