You might consider a good backpack with hip and chest straps. When tightened down, your pack won't move even with a good amount of weight in it. I use several hiking/hunting/running backpacks that suit my particular needs for the day. My nike running pack is the best at snugging down a good load, and you can carry a full size laptop easily in it.

Haha no. I ride a mountain bike. One trip over the bars landing on your back will break a laptop.. Not to mention the weight of the laptop plus the 8 or so pounds of water in the Camelbak.

    Well, quit crashing then! :D

Just kidding. I guess that wouldn't work so well for your situation.

I wish. I wear a Camelbak for back protection as much as I do for water. I've landed on it more than once.

I mean, people put locking covers in their plastic bed all the time. There's at least a couple of options for making the 2 compartments in the bed lockable.

I don't disagree - I just think it might promise more than it delivers is all.

Usually most break-ins in my area are smash and grabs. This puts valuables out of site and it will make thieves spend more time, which we are hoping they will just pass. Bottomline, if a thief really wants anything, they will get it.

Right, and I doubt anyone doing a smash and grab is going to have the tools on them to bust into a locking compartment. Maybe at night when it's not obvious, someone would put forth the effort, but I'm not leaving my laptop in the truck overnight. I'm just leaving it in there to ride my bike.

Move the pull strap or make an extension, work it around either lower side of the seat back so you have to tuck your fingers to find it, then to release, circle it back around to the top of the seat back pulling it. Make the extension all but very hard to find. Its a no cost way to do the same thing. It would take an unknowing person too long trying to find the release....if ever. I did this and it even takes me a few seconds fumbling to find it, knowing exactly where it is.

1911tex Hey this is what I wanted to do exactly. When you say MOVE the pull strap can you give me a primer on how you did that? Did you remove the back of the rear seat to get at all that? Then pull it through? I'd love more details on how you did that. I was going to take the back off and pull it through if its simple enough, sounds it.

Yes, I removed the plastic cover on the back of the seat. Once its off, you can see the setup. I actually left the pull strap sticking out of the plastic grommet, but tied the other end so it is fixed (dummy)....someone could pull that strap until kingdom come. The actual release is a cord attaching to where the strap had attached to the release latch and long enough to be hidden below the lower back of the seat, but reachable with fingers when you raise the seat bottom, then rotated around the seat back to the top It took me 45 minutes to figure it out....not too difficult if determined; yet extremely frustrating for a POS trying to steal your property.

For anyone looking at this thread for a rear seat security solution: I found this video on Youtube during my own search and felt that it belonged here. He uses a hidden button and a solenoid to pull the release cable, which I thought was really clever. It also has some good footage of the components inside the seat, so if anyone wants to make a mechanical version of this (like others have mentioned) then it still might help you to watch the video before disassembling your own seat. I hope this helps.
