    Hey guys,

I have a 2004 TRD and long story short, the frame is rotted at the front leaf spring mount and is starting to buckle under load. I am not really feeling the love from Toyota as far as fixing it (that is a whole different story and still in play) but I see that Saf T cap makes a nice repair kit.

Here is the question. I called Saf T cap and they said their kit will fit up to 2002 but they were not sure if it would fit a 2004. That makes no sense to me as I thought the 2002 and the 2004 share the same frame? Am I wrong here? Mine is a 1st gen truck, early 2004 build. I am interested because I am handy with the welder and if this kit fits, it would resolve the issue without lawyers getting involved (never a good solution, lol). Thanks for any info!

I share your confusion in their assessment of what vehicles the kit fits because as far as I know, the frames are identical between 2001 and 2004 ( cab differences not withstanding). I have used the Safe-T-Caps on a Jeep Wrangler, and you have to be 100% certain that the only section that is rusted is the one that you are buying the kit for. As soon as you start cutting out the problem section, you inevitability find one issue after another. On another note, Welcome to Tacoma World!

Thank you for the reply Charlie and thanks for the welcome. Honestly, I belong to a few forums, but have never been on a Tacoma forum....the truck has been so good to me there was never a need! This frame thing kinda put a damper on that feeling, but I am hoping I can resolve in some way. Maybe someone else can chime in with experience with Saf T Cap.......

Who can say maybe they are just covering themselves.

They may never had that year truck up close and in person if that is the case I would say the same thing .

I have never bought any of there pieces

In any case if you can fabricate you can make things right again.

I have done quite a few of these frames.

    Best of luck

Yeah, I can fix it, I was just curious because the kit would make a nice time saver rather than fabricating my own stuff. I tend to go "overkill" and I know I will end up spending two weeks screwing around with it instead, lol. I'm gonna give em one more call and see if I can pin down what years and makes they are sure they fit. Thanks for the info guys.
