They are moving the factory from California to Texas . It wouldn't make sense to move all of the tooling too, so there WILL be a new body style next year. :woot:

Toyota was going to change body style in 2012

They pushed that back to 2013 , now with all the recall bs and other issues I have read where it will "most likely" be pushed back to 2014 or even latter .
IMJ they will not be doing a new generation for awhile . I hope I am wrong and they change their mind .

A new generation would be nice and is needed

They have the best selling truck (mid size ) on the market

They will have to contend with Dodge / Ford /and/ Chev changing theirs also .
It will be an interesting time

Yea, since Ford really cares about the compact/midsize truck segment as evident by their 15+ year old Ranger lol. The domestic brands have a long way to go. They do well in the full sizers, not small trucks though.

From what I read in the various automobile magazines that I subscribe to, 2012 is when the next generation Tacoma will arrive. However with all the recalls it is possible that Toyota may change their plans.

I own a 2008 Tacoma and in my opinion it is a very fine machine overall. There is no reason why Toyota couldn't get ten plus years out of the current models production run with just minor upgrades every year.

As for it's current competition I would have to rate them like this:
    • Nissan Frontier. Just as good, if not better than a Tacoma in some areas. Less after market support though. I would own one, but would still rather have a Tacoma.
    • Ford Ranger. Decent solid design that has evolved over the years, but a step down from a Tacoma. Plenty of after market support. I would own one, but would rather have a Tacoma.
    • Chevrolet/GMC Canyon/Colorado. I wouldn't own either. I would not be surprised to see them dropped from production. If possible I will not support any company that declares Bankruptcy. To me Bankruptcy is just legalized stealing and theft.
    • Dodge Dakota. Pure junk! I hope they are discontinued! Again, if possible I will not support any company that declares Bankruptcy.
And this is just my opinion, and my opinion is the only thing that I am an expert on.

ya the last major rendition of the ranger was 1993. Since then they have done very minor changes such as headlights, grill change, tail lights, and a newer 4.0L which is dated now

Ford is currently working on a new Ranger for the world market, but there is no confirmation yet if it is coming to America.

    A few.
Not really. Ford, GM and Dodge are all discontinuing their small trucks over the next 1-2 years.

The small truck market will be owned by Toyota and Nissan.

i hope when they do change it, it looks better than the new 4runners. The new runners aren't rugged like they used to be! i hope the new taco's aren't too "pretty"
