It's raw steel exposed to the elements. Cover it in mavcoat. And it's just a little oxidation, it's not gonna crumble away. And it's your brake caliper stem, it's just the to direct heat away from your brakes it's not load bearing or anything.

Ok but I lied about the last part.

    It's totally load bearing.

Unless you do a spindle delete.

Absolutely not 1 grease fitting on any of that suspension components. You would think there would be just 1.

Its fine buddy, if it bugs you that much, sand it with some emery cloth and shoot some black spray paint on there, You should see my cavalier suspension at 220,000 miles from 15 years of Pa winters, now thats rusty. What you have there is nothing and will last another 20 years

Well I try to maintain a balance of decent info and total bullshit. So 1) don't worry about the rust, I have that too in the same spot. It's not gonna compromise the strength. It just looks ratty against all the fresh black paint. No big deal. 2) it's fun to bust the balls of people who don't get something. Don't take it personal.

That's a knuckle, it's thick cast iron, that thing will outlast the truck 10 times over, leave it as is, its fine

Thanks Pal, it's not that it bugs me. I just didn't know what to think, now I do. Thanks for the info. I'm glad to hear that it's not a problem.

I wouldnt paint it. Just let it be. It will outlast almost everything else that dosent look rusted. No worries. Fluid film the truck if you're in a salt area every year, good to go.

Also it's more than likely an ingate that was removed which is part of the casting process. Never heard of something to help keep calipers cool.

From the rest of the people on this site - not everyone is an absolutely jack ass. Just avoid posting in the third gen section .. it's full of derps.
