Finally home! 2045 miles! good trip. Have some stellar photos. And some killer stories from this short notice trip haha

 

Pulled the fuel pump in the cruiser this last week. What a breeze. They have a little access hatch so it took about 30 minutes to pull the seats and have the pump out. I changed the fuel sock and that seemed to fix it. Starts better, idles better and drives better.

Put a fresh coat of wax on it and now I just need to clean the interior to get it listed...

also, in regards to tires, i know you were talking about getting some new tires for BabyT. Well, after replacing my wheel bearings...all 4 now ha..i am VERY happy with the ST Maxx's. Super quiet on the highway. Would recommend for a good daily/weekend warrior tire. Great in snow and rain and well..just about everything. Not as grippy as a MT offroading..but pretty impressive really.

 

I am "listing" it haha. But I don't really want to sell it. BabyT will be looking at new tires next winter. I went with general at3's for the cruiser and couldn't be happier for on road conditions. The sidewalk is weak though.

Coopers are tough side walls. I think you'd be happy with them. Bit aggressive for an AT but still, very nice. I'm happy with them. Supposed to last a very long time too.

And yes, some good ones. Not a ton of truck porn though. Mostly huge canyons.

 

Looking forward to the pictures and stories. Your trip write ups are always a great read. The guys here showed me how to follow you on APRS, some pretty sweet trails and killer campsites - especially the one way back in Canyonlands along the Green River.

Yea that was Millard Canyon. LONG drive...well..not that bad. But the road was annoying i thought after a few hours. But was a great drive. Some of the best canyons i've seen were on that drive. Got to park right on the edge of some of them.

I still have to finish my last Utah trip write up! ha! Who would have thought i'd get behind on that..

This trip was very unique for me. Very fun but wow it would not have happened without the help of friends. The power of this website REALLY shone on this trips in a couple ways.

 

Looking for a little advice from everyone.

I started to attempt to pull my fender flares today so I could sand, prime, and spray with bed liner. Has anyone attempted this nightmare? There is a special place in hell for the person that designed those plastic rivet/grommets that hold the fender well to the flare. I only messed around with it for a short time before stopping. I was thinking it might be easier to tape off the front/back end of the truck and then do the fenders that way. Does anyone wanna add their two cents here?

 

Been awhile but I don't remember it being hard. Just rip them off and order more of the rivet/grommets you are talking about. I have a set in my garage for the day I finally cut and replace the fenders .

 

Do you think I need to worry about that thin rubber strip that runs along the length of the fenders? I am not sure if thats something I will need to try and preserve or not.

 

Pretty sure that goes with the flare. Remove the plastic fender liner and take a look at whats holding the flare on from the inside. Do take some caution removing it because there are plastic pieces on the back side of the flare that those plastic clips attach to. They can break and are not replaceable.

 

I remember we used a tape measure to get the right seat depth but I can't remember how we actually came to the right depth... Should have wrote it down

Since I was in Casper by myself today I decided to swing through the Toyota lot to glance a pretty nice looking lifted third gen. Of course i was barely stopped before i was swarmed but I ended up talking to the salesman for a while. ON the spot they offered more than I payed for my Taco a year and a half ago on anything in the lot, made it half tempting. I cant believe the prices they are getting for them, when you could get a way nicer TRD 4runner or even a comparably equipped Tundra for a couple thousand more!

 

Well...that just shows the used market for tacomas.

Ever since the 3rd gen came out, it made 2nd gens a tad cheaper and a tad more desirable. 1st gens price's plummeted and pre tacos are cheap as hell now.
