I was really only looking at the DC. When I was at the dealer I told my wife I would love to have an access cab but wouldn't consider one due to our 15 year old son. She is the one that said screw that, get what you want because we are ALMOST NEVER all in the vehicle at the same time and he'll be out of the house in 3 years.

My wife sat in the back and said the same as your wife.

I bought a 2004 Tundra DC because of my daughter. She road in the back seat about 12 times. I just traded it for the 2017 AC Tacoma. I love the size of my Tacoma!

Access Cab works great for me. The 6' bed is a requirement, but on the DC the wheelbase is just to long for me. Love my AC!20170218_162656.jpg

never- I do not want to own a truck with a 5' bed, and if I needed a DCLB, I would get a full size. Get what fits your needs- I sit in the back of my AC from time to time, and I am 6'-4". Not too bad for short hops. Just never understood DCLB- but my first two trucks were regular cabs.
The AC is way more utilitarian and better looking too, IMO.
The back cab is perfect for gear, and 6' bed is perfect for my needs.

I had an 06 Dakota DCSB. Hauled people six times in two years. I needed the bed more.

If my wife and I have kids, you can't really fit an infant carrier in the DCSB anyway. So we decided that she'd haul him for the first year.

Here is a pic of the 2005 DCSB I built. It was the best truck I have ever owned. Just not into the small bed and don't think it is worth sacrificing for the very few times that I might have a rear seat passenger.

Lighter, looks better, nothing says "I have a family" more then DC. It's the 'sportier' more purpose built machine for the single man....

Then I got married and had a kid ✌️.

We added a Sequoia to our fleet for that.

As long as you feel comfortable, why would you care how your passengers feel. They can either ride with you or follow you in their own cars.

I absolutely love my access cab with the utility package, the "Tacoma sports coupe" my truck is the opposite of any family man vehicle , maybe that's why I love it lol

My first two trucks were regular cabs. Once my 2nd son was born, I needed a new truck and the Dodge Dakota just had a redesign- access cab was pretty new in 97, and the back seat was way bigger than the S10 access cab- seating capacity was 6! I was very happy and that truck lasted 19 years.
From that perspective, there was no such thing as a "double cab". My wife and I raised our sons and now they are on their own, We have a 10 year old girl who takes after my mom- she will top off at around 5' tall, so we should be good for the next 20+ years with my new access cab.
We have family vehicles for when we need to transport many people, on rare occasion, take two vehicles.
I think it is a tremendous waste or real estate to have seats in the back of my truck that will rarely be used, and 6' bed is non-negotiable need.
Really happy with the Tacoma Access Cab- fits my needs to a"T".

haha, never thought of it that way, but our trucks really are the stripped down 'superleggera' version.

Someone please get "Utility Package" side graphics in this font, thanks :)

Pretty much the exact truck I want. I just spent the last hour researching dealer inventory in AZ. Only in stock access cab TRD off road models I could find were either red or blue. I really want quicksand, but would probably be ok with white.

Pretty much what I just went thru, if you're not in a rush, just have the dealer order exactly what you want. Big 2 had the lowest OTD pricing, mainly due to the lower City sales tax.

I really like my access cab. In the past I always had regular cabs and they did fine. In '13 I decided to try out the DC. Found out I did not need the extra cab room and missed the extra bed space. Needless to say AC fits me perfect. The extra room to carry odds & ends when needed is worth it IMO.

I went AC because its just me 90% of the time. Second best reason is I now have a valid excuse for not driving bigger groups of friends and family. "Sorry guys, just a two seater, so who's driving?"

Access cab is perfect for hauling multiple cases of beer into the woods. Double cab not so much, they'll rattle around back there...
