I sold my duratracs 265/75/16 load Cs at 40k with 12/32 left. Loved them, wish they made them in 255/85/16. I dont accelerate or brake hard and ran them at 38-40 psi. Would air down to 18 and they did great.

I ran 265/75r16 Duratrac "C"'s for 51,000 miles. I decided to go with 285/75r16's, Cooper STT Pro's just for something different. Not a problem in the world with the Duratracs. I took them off while still good enough to sell. They were probably at 1/2 tread. They are considered a "hybrid tread"....1/2 way between an A/T and M/T. They did really well in mud. Really well on rocks. One of the best snow tires I've had in recent years. The Coopers are full blown mud tires. With that, they are still quieter than the Duratracs. Also, the Duratracs needed a higher air pressure which made them ride a bit "stiffer". But....to answer the specific question....With rotation every 5000 miles, keeping them balanced (3 times in 51,000) they would have been good for about 70,000 miles.

Let me just say this. When I started modding the taco I ran the BFG AT KOs. I had 2 sets (a set for the stock rims and then upgraded to 33s) great tires in everything except mud and wore really quick.
2 years later I jumped up to 35s in the Dura trac (our local club has many guys using the duratrac) and I was astonished at how great these tires are. I even had my company buy the dura tracs for my work vehicle. Just about every industrial work vehicle out here uses them. Ive put about 40,000km on the stock size dura tracs on the work truck and theyre mint.
Also when I bought my Tundra new in october, I threw Dura tracs on it right off the lot.
Still it has to do with your driving environment. I live where driving through deep snow, ice, mud and gravel are the normal road conditions.
Do I hesitate every time I price out a set of tires? Yes!
Am I concerned that I may not like another tire as much? Yes!
Good luck with your decision. Hope the responses are what you are looking for.

I haven't run the Duratracs yet but am planning to.
Had the st maxx on my TJ. Great tire and lasted a long time. I got the set I had used, already had 45k KM on them and I put another 30k km on them before I got rid of the TJ and they still had plenty of tread left. but they killed fuel and weren't the smoothest of ride since they're E rated.
They are amazing tires though and if Cooper made them in a C rated I'd be buying them again, but given I daily the truck I can't lose that much MPG. So going with a 265 70 17 C rated duratrac
Even if I end up wanting a 33 I'll still probably stick to goodyear since you can get them D rated.

I know fuel loss is to be expected with bigger tires and lift etc but I have to try and save whatever I can.
With all the good reviews I've heard of them and one of my friends who felt the same about the coopers as I did since we both had them at the same time and after he got the duratracs. I figure they should be a good option for me.

Got 60k out of my last set I ran on a Dodge Ram... Just got to rotate them about every 5k miles... Same interval I do my oil changes, so it's easy to remember.

Good analysis. Only major downside of cooper stt pro in my mind is that they only have 265/70/17 in E rated which is too heavy and stiff (overkill) as needed for this little truck?

Most of you guys are referring to the LT versions I assume? I see there is also a SL version available, any input?

I really want to try DuraTracs down the road based on their mud prowess over the Ko2.

Load C is what I would opt for... no way would I run E rated tires on this truck. Not necessary...just way too stiff, too much rotational mass, it's not a 6,000lb+ HD truck. Tranny is already shift happy, low end torque bad enough as is...do not need to make that worse. Heavier tires will certainly do that (more rotational mass). Some of these guys putting 285s on there must feel like pulling a boat everywhere they go. Oh but at least it looks cool!

    265/70/17 'C' Duratracs

Very small hit to the fuel economy IMO.

I know you Americans don't like kilometers.... so in other words it costs about 4 bucks more a tank than before lift and tires.

Switched from C (265/75r16) to E (285/75r16) and there was NO noticeable difference in performance.....NONE. Shift points not effected enough to be noticeable. And the ride was BETTER due to lower air pressures required with the E tire. All those alleged "negatives" turned out to be non events.....Gas mileage dropped about 1MPG. That could easily be attributed to larger diameter tire. I drive a LOT of miles. (Often as much as 1,000 a week) That gives me a good bit of feedback/data to base opinion on.

You should look into the new nitto Ridge grapplers. I got a set of 35's on my jeep and they are silent!!! I repeat...silent!!! 20170201_102237.jpg

I could have got 80k easily out of my OEM BFG ATs. I changed out at 78 because I got tired of looking at the Coopers sitting in my garage. I had Duratracs on my 2009. Put 30k on them before selling. They would have gone at least 70. They were relatively quiet

I have run both. I have ST Maxx now because I needed a beefier sidewall. Maxxs are not noisy at all. Can't compare mud or snow performance because Duratracs were on a Prerunner

I've never seen a set of Nitto's on a jeep that weren't bald lol. My buddies and I have an inside joke that the jeep dealership sells new jeeps with bald nittos lol. They are just extremely soft rubber that doesn't last. But good for strictly off roading.

I don't want a tire that is SCREAMING loud, but a bit of road noise from a good mud tire is part of it....The Duratracs weren't excessively loud. The Cooper STT Pro's are LESS noise than the Duratracs. It doesn't matter to me how damn "quiet" they are if they leave you sitting in a mud hole, stuck.... Quiet is over-rated in my book.

I've run half a dozen sets since 2003 including MTRs in E, KO2 in E, Duratracs in E and C and the C rated tire is superior for a small truck. As you said yourself 1mpg difference so you already saw a difference there. Also bet you're running 5100s which ALSO ride stiff....so how much has that already impacted your ride? A ton. Most of my trucks were OEM configured with 3% to 5% larger tires. I'd say your experience is an exception to the rule and not the best example given the control method.

I have about 15k on my duratracs load C 265/75/16. Amazing in mud and over all off Road. On the Road they are a little bouncy at certain speeds, not the greatest road manners. Not the balancing either because I've had them done 3 times since new, no difference. I had Toyos and they had much better Road manners, so it's not all mud terrains. Many people have the bouncy duratrac experience though. Google it.

My MTRs were the same way. Not too uncommon particularly when you go up in size from OEM

Not going to DISagree, but not going to agree as an across the board answer. A BIGGER E is riding significantly BETTER than a C in this case. BOTH on the same suspension....Mine is not the ONLY similar case......, so toss out any alleged "difference in ride" there....Same ride quality baseline with BOTH tires. Facts are facts. My "experience" with tires goes back 43 years with 17 different 4wds of my own, which includes a total of 5 Tacoma's. Not my first rodeo.... Plus dozens that I work on for other people. The drop in gas mileage is easily explained by a BIGGER tire. I'm sure heavier didn't IMPROVE the mileage, but there's no evidence that it was the sole cause of the 1mpg drop.

Trying to rationalize an "absolute" opinion based entirely on C vs E based 100% on anecdotal opinion is cause to discount any credibility in that opinion. Some E's simply ride better than some C's and vice versa.....And some E's are more than capable of delivering good gas mileage compared to some C's.....There is no clear cut difference, in spite of any "theory". Facts speak louder than unproven theory.
