'17 DCSB TRDOR or TRD Sport?

Same here. I'll never do more serious off roading than they do. Chad is rolling on stock tires too.

 

Future repair on crawl control and MTS does make me a little nervous, but I'd likely want to add a locker in the future anyway, so....damn.

 

Damn, that Barcelona Red is pretty, and that looks about like one of the roads I had to avoid in the ole' 2wd last year.

 

Would love a manual. First pickup (97 Nissan) was a manual. Loved shiftiing it myself. Wife nixed that though, since she doesn't want to learn it.

 

You also gotta realize the posters here are not the best cross section of Taco owners. Most folks here are more into off-roading and modding than typical owners so the advice and opinions will skew that direction.

Drive both.
Honestly assess your needs.
Factor in your wants.
Find a good deal that makes sense for you.

 

I have the sport, I would totally buy the OR if youre not going to Go crazy with mods. It offers a better ride, locker, crawl and the scoop is cool looking but a pain to see over and the nose on this truck is already too long haha..

I like the look of the sport but everything else about the truck is better on an OR and its less to upgrade down the road unless you want to.

 

I'm getting much better input here than I honestly expected. Thanks for the thoughtful comments everybody. In response to that, I don't want to modify or upgrade anything that doesn't need it. Aside from better tires after the OEM ones wear out and a super badass Chicco car seat, I won't be hitting the mods. You make a good point that the OR has a lot of stuff that people add anyway.

 

Chicco car seat fits well in the back LOL and a Awesome mod !! I took our seat just to make sure when I first looked at trucks.
1.) It helps keep the car clean by frequent vacuumings
2.) the sound is great and runs from laughter to melt downs
3.) free foot prints on the back of the front seats
4.) helps with frequent stops on long trips
5.) Safely carries lovable bundle of joy!!

 

Glad to hear its a good fit. I was going to carry along for test drive too. Those frequent stops are nice until the drive stretches past about 5 hours. I always have to remind myself that the memories of those trips and adventures will long outlast the irritations.

 

I opted for the OR because the "upgrades" made functional sense to me.

I probably could have gone for an SR5 tbh, but I do like this truck.

 

Probably the best way to see it. An SR5 would more than satisfy most of our needs, but the upgrades of the TRD trims are icing on the cake.

 

I would have went with the SR or SR5 if I could have got the 4-door (non negotiable) and the manual (non-negotiable)

 

I didn't even look at them, went on the lot saw a sport, checked it out, it had intermittent wipers and I was happy, just needed the Manual trans and a color I could deal with.

 

I did look at them due to price point, but they had my truck on the lot and well.. I'm $32000+ poorer and, as my wife calls it my new girlfriend

 

Glad to help. The OR just (in my opinion) provides better value for the price. For those who are partial to the way the sport looks and considers that a priority, there's not anything wrong with that. If you were looking to heavily mod the truck, the SR5 would probably be your best buy since you can get aftermarket lockers. But for a truck that's got the most functionality off the lot, OR all the way. As others have said though, if you spend a lot of time in mud, do upgrade the tires. The wranglers are fine at most everything else a stock truck should be doing, but not mud.

 

I have a White 2016 Double cab OR 4X4. I don't go off road much but I do a mountain trip in the mountains every year and the 4x4 comes in handy in the snow. I personally like the look of the off road better than the sport. I don't care for the non-functional hood scoop or the air damper on the front. Do what makes you happy.

 

Are his stock tires Goodyear Wrangler ATA's?

 

I'm pretty sure they are Toyo Open Countries that come on the Sports.

 

I pulled the air dam off mine one day one. Took about three minutes.

 

I thought the same thing but actually surprised at the GY Kevlar. Not that bad compared to the other wrangler tire lines which are awful. I'm still getting Cooper AT3s when these wear down...or I have enough saved up.
