And don't forget your free passes for state and national parks, also good for discounts at campgrounds. I think it is any service connected rating.

To each is own.. I have them. One main reason I got it, bc I like it better than the crap designed reg state tags which suck elephant sack..

I can see your concern to a degree, with how stupid things are in some areas now (which is a total shame, and a dam shame you can't even think about getting a VET plate without concern).. But all in all, I feel like most people either pay it no mind or if they're a decent human appreciate your service..

It'd be a shame for an LEO to ever give a vet/active crap for it, like DaBears mentioned (that cop is a dirt bag and is the kind that brings dishonor to the badge), that'd be some BS.. I personally feel a common respect for them and hope that it's mutual.

I'm 50/50. I want to for the discount but I don't because of the attention.

The only attention I've ever received from running my veteran plate has been people thanking for my service.

I have the OR Veteran permanent plates. I have no worries of unwanted attention. So many around here that you would be relatively hard pressed to pass 10 vehicles without seeing one. Really the only time I have noticed any attention is when I go to McDonald's for breakfast and BS with some of the local Korea and Vietnam vets.

Ive been running a disabled veteran plate for about 10 months. Havent gotten any negative attention (or positive for that matter). They are free for SC vets here in Missouri. Otherwise, my plate would have cost a whopping $27.

If you apply by mail or online it cost a little bit. You can get it for free by going to NFS, BLM, or National Park regional offices. Took me a whole 5 minutes to get mine. Just need your VA letter stating that you have a service connected disability. The pass is the Access Pass which is free to anyone with a permanent disability.
When you get it, you can ask for a pamphlet that has a list and map of the regional parks and accessible lands, it also shows what is available at each.

In TN we have a variety of military plates to pick from based on your service. If you're 100% VA rated you can get a disabled veteran plate for free that's permanent, and additional permanent plates are only $25. The DV plates also get free parking at metered or public garages. One reason I like our Veteran plates is they don't list your county on them, so people can't tell if you're a local or from a diff county. I've heard tell (truth or rumor idk) that your chances of having your vehicle broke into is higher when your from out of town. As for the attention, I think I've only ever gotten positive attention from my plates. Both when I had Iraq/Afghan plate or the DV plate I've got now. I say be proud of your service, don't shun it! :oldglory:

Oregon, you can have one veteran permanent plated vehicle. I also have permanent plates on my car which are "special purpose" because my car is, by current law, classified as a "hot rod".

In Oklahoma its a discounted tag
Plus every 3rd year you can buy a new car and don't have to pay the taxes on it. But best of all VET plate gets you out of tickets

I've had veteran plates for 6 years. Washington state, pay extra $30 for AF plates. Never had a single issue with unwanted "attention".

It's not a license plate that gets attention, it's driving like an asshat. Drive within the laws and respect other drivers and 99.9% of people won't notice.

Maybe. They shouldn't be free though, if the state charges extra for other special plates the bet plates should be extra as well.

eh Im sure some will consider that controversial, I really dont mind too much because its typically the state you live in, but if you dont like supporting the state you live in I wouldnt get veteran plates for that particular state, until I got to where I WANTED to live.
