I have a 2005 PreRunner. It's original to me with 190,000 miles. Never had the check engine light come on. All the book says is to take it to a Toyota Dealer.

Take it to an Autozone or similar to get the CEL code. If the CEL is flashing you have bigger problems.

Oh boy. Let's hope that is not the case, I normally do not have the best luck.

He means if it's currently flashing. Is the check engine light on solid or does it flash? Flashing indicates a bigger issue and you should try not driving it if that's the case.

If its seems to be running ok, I would suspect something minor like an O2 sensor. But cant start narrowing it down with at least a CEL code.

It is solid. And after driving it to lunch and back nothing seems odd or not normal. Also all my fluid levels are good and the temperature stayed where it always is. Idling fine and no anomolies that I can tell.

Might just be a vacuum leak somewhere or running too lean/rich for some reason. Get the code pulled at any autoparts store and you can post it up here (or google the code) and you'll be able to narrow it down. Even if everything feels normal you don't want to drive around for too long letting it go unresolved as it could turn into a much bigger issue sooner or later.

This could anything from a loose gas cap to an expensive failure. Chances are, it's nothing big. I think an O2 sensor is a good bet. You can have your codes read by a local parts store and troubleshoot it yourself or take it to a dealer or shop of your choice for a proper diagnostic. I'm sure you're safe to drive on it now, but you should get it checked out

Alright code is checked and here is what it is: P2440 Secondary air injection system switching valve stuck open bank1

Suggested parts are: Diverter Valve/Air Management Valve

The guy at AutoZone says that part doesn't even exist for them. Anybody know what to do with this?

I'm no expert, but I thought that system was brought out in model year 2012. You have a 2005 correct?

Could it just be a vacuum line maybe, how would I check this? I can now hear a whistling sound that wasn't there before when I start the truck after it has been sitting for a while and the automatic choke kicks in.

Choke? If you have a choke you must have done an engine transplant.

Sounds like the engine was from a 2012+

Guys the 2TR-FE had the air injection since 2005 I believe, 4.0 got it later.
