Gas cans...

    What are you all using for extra gas cans for those of you that carry them. I see a lot of rotopax but they are smaller capacity and cost a crazy amount for that capacity ($108 for 4 gallons...seriously?)

    I can always get the old jerry can style like I have on my other truck, but was wondering if something in plastic would be better.

    I made the bracket in the linked post from 2x 1-1/4"x1/8"x36" pieces of steel bar from Home Depot and a crappy Chicago Electric Mig Welder. The can itself is a $13 plastic, 5.3 gallon unit from Costco. I just took it down to Baja and back and it worked pretty well. All in, with the can, it was like $50 and required no drilling/cutting of the truck.

    Whatever you get, make sure it's made out of tough material. I like the metal jerry cans because they hold up well to off-road conditions, mine have been tossed around quite a bit. I strap them down well and they still sometimes find a way to get loose, wouldn't want something made out of cheap plastic that might break or crack and leak.

    Sheesh man thank you. I was cussing my new can just yesterday. Spilled out more than went into my weed eater reservoir because of the stupid safety feature on the spout.

    If you're struggling with finding a solution, I'd suggest just dropping by a motorsports shop (atv, motocross, etc.) and checking out their inventory. They usually will sell a variety of cans and configs

    Canopy, fitted seat covers, OBA with self leveling air bags, 100w solar, dual Rhino Rack Pioneer platforms, side & rear LED work/FU lights, CB, cell booster. 7x16 cargo conversion, 3" lift, 7'x6.5' fold down aluminum rear deck.
    EZpour spout kits are great. If you have a local farm store, I've noticed that most around here have them in stock. I replaced the spouts on both I my 5 gallon cans. Yes, you have to drill a hole, so do it on an empty can. Also, smaller hole is preferred over one drilled too large.

    I have a single 2gal Rotopax as of now.

    Slim profile allows me to mount it alongside the bedrail and not lose that much cargo space.
    Personally I prefer to have smaller increments of fuel to handle.

    All credit to @ROCdermody i have just been chatting with him about his setup below. I'll include the link to the Amazon product too.
    He said it's about a 1/4" shy of resting on the wheel well when it's just the can holder but the full can would sag it down to the well and we chatted about maybe gluing some dense 1/4" inch-ish foam to the bottom to reduce rattle and sit flat full or empty. Oh yeah and he said all you have to do is drill out the holes a bit to mount to the bedrail with some of those bed nut jammies.
