I need to vent a little bit and hope I can get some support from you guys and gals. If some of you remember I recently passed my national registry test for EMT-B and I submitted my application for my county card last Friday. Well they County EMS jsut called me today saying that I failed my background check. I was charged with a felony when I was 17 years old, but I completed all of my probation program and am in the middle of getting my record sealed. County EMS is claiming I was "convicted" may 15th 2009.... which isnt true. all of my lawyers and probation officers have told em I was never convicted technically because I was a minor. County EMS wants to deny me certification first because I was convited of a felony when I was an adult (going off the may 15th date), which I wasnt. As well as my "lying" about enver being convicted of a felony on my application. I have a chance to plead my case to the agency tomarow and Im very very nervous..... I dont know if any of you even care but it feels good for me to write it down at least. thanks for listening if you did.

Good luck with the hearing. I hope it goes your way. I'm a believer in second chances, especially someone making a mistake when they are young.

just read through some paperwork and saw that they got that may 15th date from a random court date I had about restitution.... it was a court date I went to for a total of 8 minutes so they could tell me to come back in 3 months...... confused how they picked that date out

Just be honest and it will all work itself out.. Being all uptight and nervous doesnt change the outcome so take a deep breath and pop a couple xanax and it will all work itself out tomorrow!

Hopefully common sense prevails. If not maybe after your record is sealed you could try again.

dont try to lie about any details and treat them with respect. some people look at you and judge you differently because of your young age. trust me i know. be cool and collected and all should be good to go! good luck!

Yeah man...Sounds like you are on the right track. Take the good info you have and the stuff you have been told (and maybe a laywer)...And tell them the truth.

    Good luck!!

Some stuff. Not a lot, just some.
I couldn't agree more. Being calm, cool headed, and straight up is the best way to go. It will show that you are a different person than you were back then. It will also help if you bring evidence to refute their statements. Present it when the time calls for it professionally. Dress professionally too (Slayer t-shirts are a NO but if you have a wolfpack sweatshirt -). First appearances in these situations can seal your fate from the get go.

I wish you luck in your endeavor. Keep us posted.
